  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So i have an h.i.d. kit installed on my 510. The stator doesnt seem to be generating enough power to replenish the battery fast enough to run the lights. I have a new stator in there a new battery in there and as far as i know a new stock regulator/rectifier..Im wondering if i can use the same stator and get a new rectifier or if i need to get a new stator aswell. Please any input would help. this may be a dumb question but i know next to nothing about electrical.

Well first of all none of us "visual learners" know what your talking aboot cause we cant see and we cant fix it because we cant get our hands on it... That said where did you buy this kit, what brand?

Give us more details friend

Did you replace the lamps or add the HID to your existing lighting? Did you wire the HID to the battery direct? In the '06, I assume same for '05, the lighting comes off the alternator direct, and the charger/battery are separate and limited. What is the new stator? A bigger one? Specs? Wattage rating of the HID?

i bought some litech hid kit from a local shop..it is wired directly to the battery and its a h.i.d. 35w headlamp. the new stator is a new stock one(dumb move i shouldve got an upgraded one) and ive been told it puts out 150w. since i put a new battery in it has been working well but i dont want to have to keep replacing batteries. im sorry if i didnt give ehough info like, i said electrical is all new to me

I do not have your vintage bike, so unless someone chimes in with better data, I will say you should be OK. The thing to do is to watch your battery voltage and see if it stays up and comes back home in a charged state (above 12.5VDC). I do not think you have a lot to play with, but 35W is probably about it.

so i went for a night ride and the headlight started flashing and died after about a half hour..so it sounds like theres not quite enough power...maybe an upgrade to a newer model sm stator that is apparently more powerful or try and get one of these moose 270w ones for the ktms that fits..unless someone has a better idea

If I remember correctly, your bike has 2 charginc circuits. One is designed to power your AC lights and the other charges your battery. It is possible to join the 2 charge systems together to power your light. I did it on a 2005 te510. It is not too difficult to do if you are somewhat mechanically inclined
