• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Neutral Light

Anyone have issues with their neutral light not being on when your in neutral. For me it seems the transmission is in neutral, but not really in neutral if that makes any sense. Some times its just a pain in the ass to find.

It's happened to me a lot too. Sometimes I'll shift to second and it slips into neutral without the light. I've just been giving it some extra toe when I shift. Other times when I actually want neutral, it does it too.???

Same here. It can be a struggle getting the light to come on sometimes + attaining a false neutral where you release the clutch and you can hear a clicking noise from the gearbox.

The demo bike I rode before I got mine only worked half the time, and mine is slow and kind of has a mind of its own.....

No problems on my TR650, it works much better in that regard than my 2006 TE250.

However I have found false neutrals between 2&3 and 3&4. See if that changes after the first oil change.

The behaviour of the gearbox in this engine is identical to the feel you get if you ride any of the BMW models with the same 650 engine. What makes finding neutral even more difficult is that when you're in 1st, and you try to change down, you get exactly the same lever travel that you do if you're in any other gear, and the same applies when you're in top gear and you try to change up. There is no physical resistance which alerts you that you are at an extreme edge of the gear range, so finding neutral can be difficult, because just identifying what gear you're in from gear lever response is impossible.

How is your problem with false neutrals develop? Because I think on mine strada it is getting worst.

Mine initially had false neutrals & hit-miss neutral light but is now a thing in the past as the gearbox has loosened up. I enjoy having to only brush the shifter to grab neutral when you're in second and rolling towards a red traffic signal.

I have the same problem from time to time. Not much of an issue, as I usually "feel" the neutral, but the same sensor work in pair with the sidestand one, so the bike will shutoff when you pull it down.
