  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Never seen this before... Leaking shock!

The Sachs shock on my 2010 TC 250 is leaking oil! This is a first in almost 40 years of riding. I've had plenty of leaky forks due to bad seals, but never a shock. WTF?

there was a guy around my area who bought a brand new 09 wr125 that the oil leaked out of the rear shock on the trailer on the way home from the dealer

How many hours on it?

Sachs shocks works great in most cases. Take it to the dealer.

There could be som scratches/damage on the rod. Or sombody on the Sachs factory had a bad day. We all have

About 8 -10 hours.

I've had the seals blow on a few of my Kawasaki's shocks, so when I saw oil all over the shock on my TE in the middle of a desert ride a couple of years ago, I thought my shock was blown. Oil was all over the shaft, bumper and lower spring. It turned out in my case to be motor oil that had somehow been thrown forward from the drain access of my airbox. My airbox has drained lots of motor oil since then, but never onto my shock, only onto the swingarm. I don't know why it did it that one time.:excuseme:

My 08 TE250 did it last winter just sitting in my unheated pole-barn. Didn't leak a drop in my heated garage, then when a snow was forecast, I put the Husky in the unheated pole-barn and brought the Kubota with blower into the heated garage to get ready for the storm and about a week later went to switch them back and there was a pool of oil under the rear shock. I thought the extreme cold caused the seal to crack because it wasn't used to that cold weather, so I took it off and gave it to the dealer to rebuild and they said the seal was shot. It had about 2,000 miles on it then.

Although not common by any stretch of the imagination it does happen. I was one of the unlucky ones that had a seal go very early in the game. Once the seal was replaced it has been dry and trouble free for the last 4000 miles.

I've dealt with both of the above scenarios. I was camping and riding in Nevada a few winters ago and the temps dropped to 3 degrees overnight. My shock seal blew on my KTM and I just assumed it was due to the low temps. Good thing I had my CR125 with me so I could do a 130-mile ride the next day

The seal blew on my 05 EXC250 after one season of mild trail riding. No cold temps here. I have heard a lot of "blown shock seal" stories about KTMs.

All my Kawi's blew their seals after many seasons of riding. I try to keep the oil in all my suspension changed out at least every two years, and every year if I have used the bike a lot, but eventually they're gonna wear out and piddle no matter what.

I have all parts in stock including complete seal housing, If you need we can fix it right away W.E.R. 908 637 6385

In the garage we keep our bikes on lifts, tires fully off the ground. I have heard this is good for the suspension components. This have some merit?

Harbor Freight has some affordable stands for about $40. Dirt Rider mag. has had HF coupons for the stands at $20 apiece.

Keeping bikes unweighted is the best way to leave them. It helps prevent suspension sag etc. I don't think it would have prevented this shock seal blowing, however I believe it will prolong normal seal life as it takes pressure off the seals with the legs fully extended and pressure reduced.

This is why my bike sits on one! Can't beat $20. Hard to find used ones for that price.
