• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC New 125 motor

I couldn't resist - I just bought a '14 YZ 125 from of all places a secondhand shop - undervalued loan security that someone has lost out on

Looks like its done 1 ride and has a dep pipe on it - if its good enough to win that '15 test it'll do me ...
If it s anything like the 04 I had that would lift the front wheel as required with its old school grunt factor - I am happy -
I don't care if am too big or old to ride these things
the Wr could be in jeopardy

Had a chance to test out this new 125 power plant in both forms today at Washougal MX park. The 125 is phenomenal, the 150 is good to but harder to manage the power.

The 125 and 250f were my favorites of the day.

Here is some helmet cam from a friend and I dicing it up on the 125 and 150.

Later,

nice - thanks for posting
sounds like the 125 is in front - sounds sweet

whats the bottom end like ? more of mid to top engine on the 125 ?

They look good with a headlight and bush bits

Nice Kato DTX - rocketship I bet

That's a sweet YZ Boogie - I think its raced in WEC and been winning too .

For mine it will be - maybe vhm head + pipe (have ) + Boyesen Rad valve + flywheel weight ( have ) + 39mm TMX ( have ) = rocketship

Also add handguards / headlight when needed , SSS forks - revalved - sweet

I was impressed with the standard muffler - they are real big in diameter

I like the low to mid response and power delivery the YZ has - It will stay as a 125 with a possibility of a MAX power 139 kit in the future

One thing I noticed again on the YZ motor - compared to WR - the carb to reed intake boot is real narrow - small gap between the carb and the Reeds

Wondering if this helps power or response

I don't want anyone mad at me... but let's start a new YZ125 thread. I'm interested in the new KTM/Husky 125 engine and would like to keep the thread on point. I would also like to read about rockdancer's YZ125 adventure, but not in this thread.

I'd love to ride them both and play with the PV springs and preload. I think you could make the power delivery, of the 150 more friendly. There was a rider on a '16 150 SX at my club's enduro earlier this month. I wanted to talk to him, but never connected.

I like the comparisons YZ vs. KTM vs. TM vs Husky vs. Italian Husky etc... If a KTM/Husky 150 came with YZ front forks I might sell a kidney but it seems like a better idea to mod the YZ engine a bit.

So who's going to start this new 125 shoot out thread?

anyone?
anyone?
Bueller?

OK...

Yamaha - good motor, great suspension, middle of the road handling, great overall bike.

KTM - Fast, light, semi twitchy, not much bottom but lots of top. Race bike

TM - Like the KTM only trickerer. Race bike.

Italian husky...

2000-04 - Solid, overbuilt, heavy, slim, great do it all motor, crap forks, odd shock, big.

05-08 - tall, CR's were fast, tall square ergonomics wide tank, OK handling, same odd suspension.

09 and up - Fantastic handling, tall, motor had odd issues earlier bikes did not. CR's were generally better performance wise. New frame made it simple to work on and handle amazing. New bigger forks were a step forward but twin chambers were semi hard to dial for off road. Shock was better valved. Great bike.

Done. :)
