  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New Clarke tank for TE450

Bikerdad

Husqvarna
C Class
Anyone hear any news on the Clarke tank for the newer TE450s. Email from them a month ago said it would be in a few weeks but no word yet.

i called them a week ago for a tank for a 2008 te510 they said it was in the works but could not give a date.

I think ~3gal but they have not released any final numbers yet.

Hope they release it soon, its supposed to be like the IMS tank for the new 250's and will work with the stock shrouds etc without having to cut bits off.

You know I like that company, gone there personally several times, met the owners and all but man they take FOREVER and seem to put husky way on the back burner. Several times they could have cornered the market. like when i offered them a preproduction TXC510 but no interest. I like their products, wish they had more foresight and cared more about the brand. Must be tough to make the call for a small brand but if you are going to jump in and get it done ASAP before others share that small brand with you.

I held out as long as i could. i have used their products in the past and have always been happy weith them. My ims showed up today. Where is the best place to get decals. The cheaper the better.

I agree .... now that the model isn't "current" they are making a tank that has been anticipated while the model was current since the 2008 was first bought. NOW doesn't seem like a good time to start making them from a business standpoint. Sure some will buy or upgrade if that is the result. But I don't get the decision to build them now knowing they will fit 3 years of models with the door closed now. That decision seems more reasonable when IMS apparently failed by many's standard. When will they make 2011 tanks?... I am happy they are making them for the few that will want them, but I don't get it. I have my Ims, if I kill that- I will look at the Clark for sure.

Got this from Clarke yesterday. Just need to be patient i guess.

No release date yet, we hare having some trouble tooling up for this tank..
Maybe several more weeks??

Sorry for the delay, I will e-mail you when it is available

The latest I got from Clarke now is that " If they decide to build it they will not start the mold till fall next year "

Guess I will just need to keep on carrying a couple of fuel bottles in my back pack.

I received this from them :

With IMS having a 3 gal and now Safari having the 4 gal, it doesn't add up from a biz perspective to go after these. Sucks yes as I like the Clark tanks too, I have a 3.4 gal on my 525, but they would probably loose money in the process. For now, I stick with the stock 1.9 gal. Meets my needs for ENDURO'S.

What you say might be true, if the mold on the IMS tank weren't so horrible, or at least it was. Has it been fixed? One wing higher than the other and things don't line up.

I bought one from IMS and won't buy another - I removed it and sold it to someone who was going to baja and needed it - I was honest about what I thought about it and took a loss.

I was really jazzed when I saw this post, I have always been happy with the fit and quality of every Clarke Tank I have purchased. I sank into depression when it piddled out...

I don't want a 4 gallon safari - I want 3.0 to 3.2 gallons and have been kicking around the idea of building my own out of aluminum if nothing else of sufficient quality becomes available in the fuel capacity I want.

Jeff

p.s. Maybe the members here can commit to do a group buy from Clarke to get a sufficient initial volume for them to move to production.

I am kind of in the same boat as OR, the Safari is bigger than I want and the old IMS tank has issues.

I wish Clarke had not misrepresented the situation back in August when they said it was in the works and was weeks away. Perhaps as Janet has said things came up with other projects that pushed out the new tank for our bike but why now say it likely won't go forward.

Guess I am just bummed and will try and work out my own solution.

The shape of the Safari tank looks nice - and if I needed more capacity for desert/baja work or dual sporting - it is the hot ticket.

But for my trail rides of 60-70 miles I don't need 4.7 gallons capacity.

Looking at the safari tank - I wonder if they could produce the existing "upper part" of their tank with a smaller bottom half (no "conveyers" and room for pump in traditional locaiton) - this would provide another capacity option to their customers. If this yielded 3+ gallons - it would be perfect.

This seems like a low(er) cost mod on safari's part that would allow them to sell many more tanks... And I would be willing to pay extra for a quality tank.

Jeff

EDIT: Please disregard my original post here they sent me a 06-07 tank which obviuosly doesnt fit the 08 frame so most lielly thay are not making new tanks
