• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New engine noise, WXC610

B Rad

Husqvarna
Hello, I have a 94 WXC 610 that i recently purchased. I have replaced the timing chain and adjusted the valves about 300mi ago. Stupidly didnt clean the oil screen at the time. For some reason i thought it didnt have one. Just tonight, it started making a rattling noise that pulsates, but doesnt seem to be in line with engine RPM. I have drained the oil and pulled the oil screen. found alot of shavings on both magnets, although alot of forum posts seem to indicate this as normal. No hard chunks, just lots of small goo/shavings. The screen was pretty full. Valves are still where i set them at .004/.006". CCT still measures ok. I tried reseting the cct thinking maybe it was over tight, no change. manual decompression is disabled right now( i broke the lever), and it's not touching the rockers.

I also lost lights tonight while riding. I am running an AC system, with a voltage regulator. Headlamp lights up when i rev, but dies below ~3k rpm. I have only begun to troubleshoot the electrics, i'm more concerned with the rattling. I also pulled the stator cover to see if the flywheel was loose, but everything seems ok so far.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was really looking forward to riding this weekend, but dont want to get stranded or worse. I also took a video of the noise to help describe what i'm dealing with.

Thanks!

As I read around a bit, I'm wondering if this sounds like preignition? I will pull the plug and take a look tonight. Maybe wouldn't hurt to drain the fuel and start fresh? I've also heard going with a colder plug? Is ignition timing adjustable, any way that could have come out of adjustment?

Thanks all!

Sounds like a Rod going away.
Don't run it any more for vids pull it apart because if it is will only do more dammage.
Later george

Too late. I ran about 175mi a few weekends ago and ended up seizing the motor. Pulled it apart, seized rod bearing, some scoring on the jug from piston slap. Broken oil control ring. Already bought a rod, will buy new piston and send jug for plating. Head is going for a check/rebuild this weekend. Not really going for more performance, I'd rather build for reliability as a motard. George, do you still have any options for a pipe around, maybe a single exhaust?

Poor judgement I suppose. I'm not intimately familiar with small engines like this. Guess I chose to believe the noise was somewhat normal. Live and learn I suppose.
