• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself and ask some advice. My name is Chris, just bought a 2006 sm610!! Very exciting. So far I love the bike. It's my first supermoto and it's exactly like I hoped it would be.

So I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind helping,

1. It has 5000 miles, needs a cam chain, otherwise in good shape. Paid $3500. Did I get a decent deal? I mean, I love The bike and I'm happy which I realize is all that matters but I was curious.

2. I live In oregon and was hoping you guys could help me with where to get parts, any good experience with local dealers? Or an online business that's well run?

3. I just checked the cam chain tensioner and it's at 10 clicks, should I park it until I get that fixed or is it ok to ride a bit while I order parts?

4. For doing the cam chain is just the chain needed or should I be replacing gears any other things? I've seen the thread on how to fix it but I was wondering if anyone has a parts list for and order. I don't like doing things half assed.

Well thanks in advance everyone! I love these forums and can't wait to put miles on this awesome bike. Please tell me if I'm breaking any forums rules here. Dang newbies right?

Welcome Nortoneer.
3. If your tensioner is at 10 clicks you have to replace the chain, but I think that you can use the bike for some other hundreds of miles; consider that that tensioner can expose up to 14 teeth.
4. You'll need a flywheel puller, a medium strenght threadlocker, liquid gasket for the head cover, gaskets for: water pump, chain tensioner, the two covers for the valve clearance check. There may be worn parts like the chain sliders, but at 5k miles I doubt it.
PS: please post a picture of your Commando!

Get parts from Hall's Cycles (IL), Motoxotica (CA), Bill's (OR). These are all vendors that sponsor this site and are prominently featured in banner ads.

$3500 seems like about right or perhaps a decent deal, depending on condition and if it needs anything else.

if you're ordering parts, I would add water pump o-rings to the parts list, I think there's one on the main shaft and three on the water jacket tube. I used Permatex high-temperature flange sealant on the head cover, it's good stuff, same as Loctite 510.

I didn't replace mine because they looked in a good shape, but i acknowledge that they are probably so cheap that it woud be better to replace them.

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I have parts on order. And theo I will definitely post some norton pics in a day or two. She sure is a beautiful bike! But I needed a daily runner, thus the husqvarna!

If it's the bike I think it is, Bill's built your bike, I wouldn't talk to anyone but them for stuff for it.

And yeah Trevor gave it to you for that price (again, if it's the bike I think it is).
