• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Looks to me like a 87 CR frame, swing arm & rear brake. looks like a 400 or 430 engine. Could be a WR or XC because it's a six speed. The forks look like WR.

All of these parts are interchangeable with many models, years & sizes. Husqvarna used the same parts on many models spanning a handful of years depending on the part.

Ahhh, didn't catch that...when I checked the numbers he gave on the frame It looked like a cr frame. Good eye.

Well , you know if it is a 87 last of the swedish bikes they really could have put all the left over parts on her. Anyone know about the pipes?

Yeah absolutely. Fine with me. It runs, its rideable and its different. I've only only seen one other in my area. Odd thing is it was darn near identicle to mine.

1614574 is the same number on my 430 cylinder. I don't know if it is the cast part number & the cylinder liner might be different. (meaning the 400 might have the same cast part number) The pipe looks like a stock 400/430 pipe...I believe they are the same.

I tried talking to him one day told him I had one, he laughed at me and went the other way. Lol. I dunno.

on the brake arm it is not a simple strut as it has bearings at both ends
if you use a straight stock it will bind up and the bolts will also never stay tight
you need a correct brake stay, if you can't find a proper one I have one laying around somewhere

I would say then I probably need one. Good thing the flat stock was only 3 bucks. The other thing. Does anyone have a good picture of the brake hub with proper hardware? I've tried zooming in on other pictures but I can't see it clearly enough.

after looking at the picture you posted the brake backing plate is an 85 or around that era XC or WR in that it does not have the bearing to support a floating hub, the problem is your bike is assembled from many different years and models
the forks are XC type 40MM
show me a picture of your front brake to see if its correct

your brake hub, brake arm and bearing mounts should look like this
in the picture you will notice a different hub that yours
this is a correct 87 CR
also do you have a shock guard like the one in this picture, the white plastic piece

Ill snap a pic tomorrow as it has an aluminum guard on it currently and its raining out. One thing I did notice was a 4 bolt plate directly behind the drive sprocket the bolts have slotted heads. It was mentioned somewhere in this thread but I can't find the reference.

here is a shot of an 87 XC, the brake has a tab on the swingarm that the backing plate engages to hold it from rotating
also notice the front forks are conventional not inverted
the second picture is the other side the front brakes should look like this, notice a large tag on the back of the front forks that holds a larger 2 piston caliper
sorry the pictures are backwards in my text:(

the four bolt flange was my comment and it indicates an 86 and back design, the 87 and 88 used a casting that did not allow the bearing to de externally removed
