  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

new TE449 owner here. Have some ?s

Just recently picked up one of the new 449s. Other than how tall the bike sits my first impression of the bike was that I really liked everything about it. After taking it out in the woods and really putting it to the test I'm pretty concerned with the power of the bike. I'm coming off riding a RMZ 250 with full exhaust, etc.. and am used to very quick throttle response and hard hitting power to get over logs, creek crossings, etc.. I feel the 449 has really good pulling power, but lacks a responsive throttle. I've already ordered a full exhaust system from FMF, and I'm looking into what's available tuning wise. The gearing of the bike also seems to be way off. I've already put a 14 front sprocket on, and really did'nt notice a difference. Thinking about going to a 13 front?

Does anyone know if dealers have a competition tune available for the 2011s?

If not, is it something that is in the works? how soon?

Anyone know where to get aftermarket parts in the US?

Any advice?

Was the power up done? If there's a plug in the exhaust instead of an O2 sensor, it should be powered up. Should have plenty of power.

Dunno about the 449, but my 310 came with two chains and two rear sprockets. It was setup with a 13/40 combo (street friendly), but I had the dealer swap it out to the 13/50 combo (trail friendly). Of course, it takes me 3 gears to get through an intersection now, but hills and tight stuff are nice with that gearing.

I have 1300 miles on mine and it seems to make more power every ride. Yes, do the power up and gearing. It is a mellow user friendly accommodating type motor not a brutal rip your arms out type motor like the 08 TXC510. BUT i have no issues hanging with KTM300 and KTM 530 all day long as my friends are on those. The bike does feel slow but is amazingly fast when it does not feel like it is. IMHO.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure if the bike has been powered up yet. From what I'm finding out the 2011s don't eliminate the 02 sensor for the power up. Theres some sort of plug under the seat?

After talking with the dealer that I bought the bike from hes saying he is 99.9% sure the bike was powered up, but I'm going to be taking it in this weekend to look things over. I have a hard time believing the bike is powered up, because I can't imagine what it's like without it powered up. He did say though that replacing the exhaust makes a huge difference with these bikes. So I went ahead and ordered a full FMF system. I went from a 15 to 14 sprocket in the front and still did'nt like the results. I then went down to a 13 and its getting better. I think I'll still go up 1 or 2 teeth in the rear to fine tune it.

It does feel like the bike is making more power and the bike is sitting lower after every ride. So I'm sure its still not completely broken in yet. I will agree that the bike is really fast when it does'nt feel like it is. I think thats due to how smooth the bike rides. Now if I could just get some low end; rip the bike out from underneath of you power (or close to it) this would be the ultimate bike. I'll check back after I have the exhaust installed..

If the bike has been already powered up, is there anything else I can do to rich'n the fuel up? any other tunes available?

Husqvarna's do not have the "hit" that you are used to with the RMZ or CRF. It's not even close in my opinion. Not sure if you are riding a TC , TXC or TE ? IF you are expecting to get that low end hit that you get on a KXF, CRF, YZF or RMZ your going to need to drop the gearing but it still isn't going to feel the same. It isn't a Japanese bike.

If your track riding a TC you need to change your approach to almost everything coming from an RMZ or CRF . That being said you'll still smoke them all**************************************** The stability and super smoothness will quickly become your best freind.... it never lets you down.

i had a 2008 te 450 with race kit,i actually thought it was alot faster than my 449 but i think actually its the fact that the 449 is so much smoother its just as powerfull, the dealer stated it did actually have bit more power than the 08,i actually find the gearing spot on standard.and yes the o2 sensor does stay in on the 449 in power up mode, but run it standard and get used to it first as it is very different to ride from previouse bikes you really have to transfer your weight more and grab it by the horns if you know what i mean.

I found MY TE449 made me get up off my butt more.It really rewards me when i do

Ok, my exhaust arrived from FMF. It actually fits surprisingly well and seems to have made a really big difference in power. I took my bike back to the dealer I bought it from and found out that it was'nt powered up when I picked it up. So he powered it up and took it for a ride. He agrees with me that somethings not right. It has some sort of mid range miss or lack of power. He said hes going to make some calls and try and figure out whats going on. I believe the fuel needs to somehow be rich'nd up at idle and right off of idle. It seems to be "flame out" stalling alot...

any ideas?

is anything available to adjust the fuel settings?

I talked to someone at Halls who said that there is a brass fuel screw that can be adjusted to richin the fuel? Is that true on EFI?

Halls knows a lot, probably know what they are talking about.

You might want to set your TPS.

- Unplug the battery and let it sit for a few minutes.
- plug it back in and turn the key on without touching the throttle
- Run the throttle to full stop and back to zero
- turn the key off and back on and start the bike without touching the throttle

this should reset the "adaptive maps" and zero the TPS. I find my bike runs better if i do this about every 300 miles or so.

javsdog - I agree. I put my damper on my bike which raised the bars a little and find i stand more on this bike than any bike i have owned before now. Feels so natural and works great.

Finally got a chance to ride one of these new TE's - a 449. In the brief loops of singletrack I rode, I certainly don't agree with any of the negatives raised by some of the magazine tests. Those writers are on drugs.
These are pretty nice riding bikes with good manners- Easy to turn, etc. The suspension wasn't set up for me, but I'm sure if it was, the bike would be quite easy to ride fast.
The CTS is a little odd at first, but I'm sure it would be soon forgotten about after an hour or two of riding.
Power delivery on the 449 I rode was quite mild, but there was certainly enough there to do whatever by just turning the throttle more. It was almost 250-310 like in some ways until you got past 1/2- 2/3rds throttle, so It shouldn't tire you out. Much easier to ride in tight stuff than a typical 450-500.........
The only significant issue I noticed- The injection seemed a bit off on this particular bike & it would sometimes stall at odd times. Once tweaked a bit, it should improve a lot.
Good bike.

Hi
I had the same problem with the bike stalling at low revs. There is an idle screw, brass, above the clear tank on the left hand side of the bike. Be careful how far you turn it from standard as it can 'drive ' the bike forward at low revs , no clutch scenario.
The 'fail' message kept coming up on mine so the dealera remapped it to original mappoing and it went. Only time its come up since is if i've staled against a steep step or ditch bank. switch off ,take a breather, suck the bladder switch on go again.

No such FI issues with my 511, however I did pop out the powerup electrical plug to overcome digging trenches in very soft terrain last weekend (it helped) and started getting decel popping just a touch.
