I recently purchased a new TE630 and have about a hundred miles on it so far. It is in stock form (no PU kit and airbox restrictor in). I have owned a variety of street, MX, enduro and dual sport bikes over the past 35 years. I enjoy riding off road much more than riding on the road but the reality is I do about 50/50 due to the lack of nearby legal off road riding areas. My most recent dualsport was an ATK605 which I loved but it was not that much fun on the road and I found myself riding very little because of that. My Initial impressions of this bike are very positive so far. My pre-purchase concerns were about the weight and power. This bike feels much lighter than I thought it would and it feels like it is capable of making some very serious power. It feels about equal to the ATK in weight even though the ATK was lighter and it feels like it makes more power than the ATK even though it is still plugged up. It is my first fuel injected bike and even in stock form the fueling is still better than my other four stroke bikes were. I have only experienced one stall and one deceleration pop so far. This may be because the idle was set high from the factory (1800 – 2000). The idle is all over the place as others have reported and I plan to adjust it when I install the PU kit. The suspension is excellent, though I will reserve final judgment until I get it off-road. So far, I am thinking this could be the perfect dualsport and I am pleasantly surprised in just about every area. Fit and finish are good and nothing has fallen off yet (thanks to all the previous posters on what to watch out for!).
Here are my questions:
1 – There is a removable oil screen on the RH side (part number 8000 74716, not the cartridge filter) that appears can only be cleaned by removing the engine crankcase cover. Is this correct ? Does this screen need to be cleaned with every oil change ?
2 – Is there an optimum time to install the PU kit? My plan at the moment is to ride it stock until about 300 miles, change the oil and filters, remove the air intake baffle and install the PU kit. At 600 miles I will take it back to the dealer to check the valves, change the oil again and put it on ibeat to check/optimize the EFI settings. Should I wait until I can get it on ibeat to install the PU kit ?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
