  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc new wb165 project

Looks like a nice find.

I'd recommed checking the reed valve- the corners can get chipped off. Another nice add is the FMF Fatty pipe.

Thanks, this one has anti tampering screws and waiting on the wrench, then replace them. Def want to check the reeds and seal up the intake.

Can't believe all the lost hardware on this one :confused:

OEM skid plate for @ $15, but the bolts are back ordered :rolleyes: Hammerhead +15mm because I wear sz 11 and keep missing upshifts. Got fork springs in the mail. With the proper shock spring and current fork springs it's totally unbalanced and no fun to go fast on. I'm posting the extra parts in the classified section as I replace them ;)

:cheers:

Looks fantastic!

The safety bolts on the reed valves are a pain. I bought the wrench to remove them, then replaced them with metric hex.
Hall's is a great source for parts- no pun intended, makes me "nuts" when previous owners replace hardware / dissimilar... You need two, or three size wrenches just take off the side panels. A very inexpensive fix to just get the right hardware.

Since the mod's aren't approving classifieds and I'm going broke, I have the following stuff for sale or trade:

(These are all for KYB and Sachs)
stock fork springs from a "310" - $25 - about 80 hrs use, PO said they were from a 310
stock fork springs from '12 WR300 - $35 - about 20 hrs use, I'd guess they're @ .44
Race Tech fork springs .44 - $50 - about 5 hrs use, same sag as stock WR300 springs

stock shock spring from a "310" - $25 - about 80 hrs use, still looks and works good
stock shock spring from '12 WR300 - $35 - about 20 hrs use, I think it's 5.4

Sold 2 Mikuni TMXX - $50 each - buy 'em both and get a bunch of jets and gaskets

125 kit is sold. It's in the original box, includes cylinder, head with gaskets, ex valves, piston and pin for $350 obo
This is the original top end from my wr144. The 144 kit was installed by the dealer before purchase, but it looks like it was at least started up as a 125.

argh****************************************

i just spent so much money for bling parts on my wr250.... otherwhise i would take the top end straight away!

the mikunies for what they are are priced good, yet when you have a lectron it's something you don't look at.

you might have to offer it on some other forums where the lectrons are not known yet.

Got quite a few things done during the "blizzard", hope to ride in the next few days. I made a bunch of significant changes all at once without testing so should be interesting.
Installed proper fork springs and 5wt Maxima, static sag is now good, rear feels a little soft, need fork seals soon
Oil change with fresh Mob1 0-40, old stuff was too dirty :naughty: need a mag drain plug, looks like someone used vise grips on the stocker
Pulled the "antitamperin" screws from the manifold and replaced with OEM from a CR, checked the reeds and fresh gaskets on both sides of the reed block
In general, round 3 or 4 of OEM bolts and bits, only a few left which are still BO
Biggest change is I got a PV spring kit from WB and replaced the stock PV springs and cleaned all that mess up
Also installed WB 200sx pipe for 165 to see how the 144 does with it
Then I found my compression tester and got only 120psi :cry: so going 165 sooner rather than later, I guess. My 165 kit has @ 40 hours on it so ordering ring, orings and base gasket.
In the meantime, the 144 is still fun in the slow and tech stuff it's just gutless on top and now I know why.

more later
:cheers:

Again!
wr150-6.jpg
Added Acerbis YZ fender and G2 handguards along the way.

165 time :banana: this one is supposed to have 40 hours, cleaned and lubed ;) fresh ring and gaskets of course

Forgot to take a pic of her topless, sorry. She ready and we ride this weekend even if it rains!

Here she is, in all her raging glory :rolleyes: As good as she gets for now. New plastic and some more detailing when I can.

Unibiker rad guards fit, but not with the YZ fender, so back to stock with some washers on the rear bolts. Got the modded 200sx pipe too, dent included.
After an extended Lectron tuning session, had a great blast around my place then a couple of laps on my fav loop. Still not quite right, but the bike is transformed. Going from worn out 150 to pretty fresh 165 makes the improvement very obvious. I'm using WB's white/green PV springs, so opening earlier @ 6500 rpm and I like it on the 165. She pulls 13:49 gears easily. I was mostly 4th & 5th on the fast trails, 3rd with lots of clutch in the turns and slower sections, 1st is pretty useless so thinking 48T sprocket. Keeping it just under 6000 r's, then twisting her tail on the open parts was max fun. Feels very fast, fooled me and got outta shape a few times. Not as fast as the 300 though, but much easier and less tiring. Pretty much just what I was expecting, so I'm happy.
:cheers:

Leave the front 2 holes exposed n re drill using rear holes on yzf fender. I did n clears guards by 5-10mm. Can't really notice holes. Or heat it up n mould to suit

Thanks, but had to do that just to get the Acerbis to fit before the rad braces. Was thinking to heat and bend it, but the stocker was easy for now. Also got a UFO fender for '90s YZ that would fit with just washers, a little more modern looking but not pointed, but decided to put it on the 300.
All in @ $4000 so far:
bike, Lectron and used 165 kit w/pipe;
fork springs;
couple hundred for oem bolts and bits;
G2 throttle and handguards;
Sunstar sprockets (I had a spare oem chain);
2 used FMF TC2;
rad braces.
Then sold 125 kit, PC pipe and 2 mik carbs for @ $500 :thumbsup: Bought and sold all used parts with members here (big) :thumbsup:
Next, still to do:
need a few bearings;
got an SKF kit for the forks (1 leg weeps a little fluid) and some 3M carbon-look plastic to wrap the scuffed forks;
hose kit (stockers look beat but don't leak, have spares, but want to do t'stat delete);
clutch kit (will need it soon I bet :rolleyes: )
eventually plastic and some sano graphics, but I kinda like her stockish and ratty, a sleeper to roost all those thumpy, orange things ;)

Some Lectron tuning and another blast this afternoon. She's a real ripper, dayam!, I was smilin' so big I got leaves and twigs in my teeth. She runs through the woods like a scalded dog, like riding a giant hive of hornets with a turbo boost. We got a nice groove and easily pulled 4th through the soaked 2 track. Tires are fading, so lots of power slide and brake slide. Squaring off tight turns is so easy.
Not happy with the rear suspension though. It feels like it's going to pack, then kicks out sometimes, gives me a pretty good beating too. That and the new seat and I've got some monkey butt on. I went to 2 clicks in, from 5, on both the LS and rebound and it's a little better. Rear brake chatters and wants to lock up still too. Not sure about the Ti Yammy spring, will try a little less preload next.
