• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

No more hydration pack for me, but what options are there?

I had thought of using some adhesive backed velcro to place a patch or two under the side helmet pad or on the outside. My only hesitation with a bite valve in the helmet is I hate anything hitting me in the face constantly so $10 is a cheap way to go about it in case It bugs me while riding.

Johnrg,
Nearly the same exact fitting in black than the "CamelPak" Blue quick connector shown hanging on the rack in a store above, but made actually and marketed for pressure side fuel injection hoses. I'm doing this to my hydration pack and helmet as we speak. I have about 4 different helmets and putting a bite fitting in all of them. The USBP "Camelpak" one I got from work has an insulated sleeve around the length of the hose but I prefer to use my AXO racing hydration pack as the bladder is easier to clean and opens up easier to get the brush and cleaning solution down inside. It also has two zippered pouches, great for forest maps and other papers or a pair of long aluminum tire irons. The "Tusk Racing" or you can buy a white one from "Motion Pro" for about $18.99, I believe, and its the same thing. If you think white is more tasty.

The darned quick connect fitting doesn't know what is going through it and it will do the same thing, quick connect your hydration pack to your helmet hose directly without any difficulties and no leaks. If it does ever leak the Male fitting uses a standard 5/16" X 7/16" x 1/16" diameter O ring. Same as my ZipTy Fuel filter, quick connector. Which I carry a few of anyway. Because its the same thing. KTM or Husky wants about $40.00 for one of these fittings. They are identical and interchangeable. I have one on my 4.1 gallon Acerbis fuel tank. So I got a few more for my helmets hydration pack hoses.

The bite fitting is getting mounted inside the front of my new helmet, where I can get ahold of it hands free and push it back out of my mouth with relative ease and it turns off to the side. Its a 90 degree fitting bite valve. One zip tie needed, So far its worked well. Didn't have to drill a hole. Its not in the way and moves freely in the front of my helmet and I don't have to ride with it in my mouth all the time like I seemed to be doing before with it coming up into the helmet from under the bottom. The bite Fitting will remain inside the helmet and I just crimp this quick connect to the hose and cut the hose back about 10 inches away from my helmet. Oediker type clamps used on the clear hose and then I'm using the insulator sleeve from the Camelpak brand hydration hose on most of the hose except where this fitting is going.

I didn't even know "Camelbak" sold accessories separate like that. At what store is this? I've never seen them, of course I'd have to drive 130 miles to even find a sporting goods store anyway.

The BPs have every "Camelbak" fitting imaginable for there field agents to get their "Camelpaks" set up to there tastes. But the screw on caps on the bladders are a PIA to clean out INMHO. And they do leave a foul taste after awhile. I have a cheap Walmart "Gooseberry" hydration pack that has a similar type screw in flush cap, costs 1 third the price of the "Camelpaks" and its a pain to get filled and even harder to clean but it actually works better in all respects, than the higher priced "Camelpak".

They used to be just a Seattle shop and catalog selling climbing/outdoor gear but now have stores everywhere. Been a member since the 70s and they credit you 10% on all purchases. Return/refund policy for most any reason years later has always been their policy though today, not longer than a year on sneakers, which is reasonable.
