• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Northwest Fall Gathering Round 2 - China Hat / Bend Oregon Oct 2011

Sounds good, I'll be there most likely. Yes the 25 is perfect for this. Yes, you should put the dates in the title and make it obvious. Cool HVNA might be there in some capacity.

- An organized DS ride to the Ice caves might be cool.
- I'll bring some goodies to give away this year.
- Bill from Bills needs to show up this year.

Lets ride.

Im up for the DS ride now that I have the little TE.

Great to have Motosportz kick in a little bling!

We will get Bill there if I have to lock him in my trailer:thumbsup: But I know he really wants to come and has been talking to the HVNA Northwest Rep about participating. This is pretty exciting stuff!

Alrighty.. finally some indication from Husqvarna NA..
  • They are excited and will be there in some capacity, yet to be determined.
  • At the very least a district rep will be there handing out information, stickers, etc, and will bring a few bikes.
  • It is quite possible that there will be pictures taken and used for marketing purposes, such as the Ride More journal.
  • It also sounds likely that some from the main office will also be there. It is also possible, that this could be *huge*, if certain people show up.
It all depends on peoples schedules which are yet to be determined, and probably cannot be determined until after everyone decides if they are going or not.

So there you have it, it is quite possible you could meet some of the HVNA top management in person, and ride with them, and be in a Ride More journal - if that makes any difference to whether you decide to come to this event or not. Personally I am thinking larger possibilities exist, but that's just me...

EXCELLENT!! (Sorry about the caps but I couldnt help myself)

Added a copy of this to Post #1 for safekeeping.

As far as I know, Bill will be there. He told me he was moving his shop last year when the event occurred. As far as I know, his participation will be quite important.

I will probably bring some Cafe Husky goodies too.

..you should put the dates in the title and make it obvious...
That was quite intentional. The first thing people tend to do is to look at the dates, then if it includes a Thursday or Monday then they instantly decide not to read the thread. The way it is set up now putting the mouse over the title will bring up not only the dates - but also the explanation that it is ok to show up and leave whenever they want.

A bit more background of the event that some may not know about.
  • There is an airport in Bend Oregon
  • Bend has a wide variety of places to stay for the people that want to stay there
  • There are decent places to eat in Bend
  • The riding area is about 30 miles / 60 minutes away from Bend
  • There will almost certainly be extra bikes
  • There will quite probably be a number of people with vehicles going between Bend and the riding area

I will be staying in Bend and making the commute each day. I am trying to arrange a long stay(Thursday thru Tuesday) and will have at least one extra bike for anyone wanting to fly in and ride. I think there will be at least three vehicles in the Montana/Southern Idaho gang of old fat guys. With at least myself and buddy Jon there for the duration. Can't wait.

This is very exciting! We are going!! Bend is only a 6 hour drive for us.

I am hoping that Woodschick is going?!!!

This appears to have developed into a "you'll really be sorry if you miss it event"!
Could be.. hard to tell.

The only thing they have really committed to is having the district rep there as I previously mentioned.. but I've got a hunch it will be more than that.

Technically the commercial airport is Redmond, OR which is about 15 miles north of Bend.
RDM Roberts Field, Redmond, Oregon, United States
There is a smaller airport for private planes at Bend though and it is east of town, towards the riding area.

Thank you for clarifying that, I have been curious.

Feel free to update post #1 with any pertinent data. :)

USFS Website

Restrictions:
"Fox Butte Green Dot Area (late September - mid October)"

"About half of the trail system is within the Fox Butte Green Dot Area which restricts access to designated roads during the general deer hunting season. This is roughly a two week period from late September to mid October. Any roads or trails within this Green Dot area will be subject to the Green Dot restrictions."

General Rifle Season Runs October 2 - October 14th as far as I can tell, last year the area was closed thru the 13th.

"The trail system is open all year, however hot, dusty conditions normally inhibit riding from mid July through September and cold, snowy conditions restrict riding from mid December through March."

Late October Expected conditions: highs in the 50-60's. lows possibly in the teens overnight, expect at least 32° or less overnight. Expect it to be "generally" dry that time of year but rain/snow can happen, I've seen 6" of snow overnight then blue skies and perfect conditions by mid-afternoon. The "rain" season starts around then end of September so the worst of the dust is gone by the time the hunting closure is over.

The nearest weather station is Pine Mountain, unfortunately there's no 2010 data but you can go back to 2009.
http://www.wunderground.com/weather...ND17&graphspan=month&month=10&day=7&year=2009

Pine mountain is higher than the trail system so the temperatures are lower there but it catches the same weather.

There is a race scheduled on the OMRA calendar for November 5/6 but no more details than "2011 Enduro/Race November 5-6, 2011"
Is there any reason the weekend 1 week earlier would not work? Thursday 10/20 to Monday 10/24th?

Someone sent me a PM (correctly) pointing out that while Halloween is on Monday 10/31, there will be a variety of childrens (and probably adult) social activities that weekend. It is possible that schools will have Halloween parties on Friday 10/28 for instance.

?

Locally the 29/30 the is the annual 24 hours of starvation ridge team race, that would be a tough choice for some... It is only a couple hours from Bend, maybe we could put together a bunch of husky teams. :D

Later,
I'm after whatever dates work for the most people. I 'tentatively' said 'how bout the last weekend in Oct' based on the post I just quoted above... it appears there are 2 weekends to choose from. I just randomly picked one.

Later,

The Fall Classic ISDE is the weekend before (moved to Tillamook instead of Bend this year) so I dont think we can hit a weekend without some potential for riding event conflict. I am personally flexible but we ought to make up our minds soon so the factory guys and those travelling longer distances, making hotel reservations etc have time to make arrangements.
