• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Now that you bought the TR650 - where ya gonna go?

My Princess testing the new wheels and tires. :)

Finished my air box mods, mounted a powered Garmin Montana cradle on a RAM, Wolfman bags on and about to install a new DID X-ring chain. Then this weekend it is off to Utah for a week of riding. White Rim, 3-Step Hideaway, Bull Creek, Burr Trail, maybe Hole in the Rock. Two Terras out of six bikes on this little outing and it will be an easy going trip to enjoy the back country scenery. We are starting and finishing in Moab. Pics when we get home.

Amigos: Has anyone done a 5000 km ride (about 3.1 k miles) on the Husky? By june/july i'm planning a 15 day trip on the bike on Peruvian road alone and about 1500km 2 up, with my son (15).
Being a 650 and not a worldtourer, would that be too much for the Husky?
I will like to instal panniers and a tank bag, and probably a little top case. What would be the max load for it? I accept your comments.
Cusco and Macchupichu are waiting! Regards

Got a flat on the rear-- not enough pressure I suppose. Changed tube and carried on. Great day. Hell of a place to change a flat-- totally gorgeous.

Looks like a shinko 705?

@ Mark R, If it is a shinko, I would love a good review of it. What do you think?

You got it. I've now got 6600 miles on the rear, and it is down to the wear bar. I'll finish it off this spring going down the highway. The front is the matching tire, and it looks great still. These tires are nothing special in the dirt or on the street, but they do the job on a bike that is neither. As for your review, I can just say that it doesn't have the sidewall of the hidenau k60, which might be the toughest ds tire on the planet. I'd buy everyone here a beer if you could pinch flat one with 25 lbs of air, as I did on the shinko. That being said however, I could also take the tire off and on with my shorty tire levers without ANY cursing. Not likely with a tougher tire. My suggestion is not to over analyze it, as web discussions are prone. Buy some tires and go wear them out... and post pictures!

Thanks, will you be buying another one? How was it compared to the stock Metzler? From the pics you posted, it looks like it is a capable tire. I have to put that area on my must go see list.

Absolutely. Which is saying something for me-- usually I only buy the best quality I can get. And I guess if I were to head to Central America again on a bike, I'd probably buy another K60. But for less than $50, the Shinko is in a league of its own.

You got it.

What size did you end up with on the rear? I only see 150/70R/18 and 120/80H/18 TT I am also going to plead ignorant and say that I don't know that the "H" and "TT" designators mean (off to google it).

Edit:

Designator "R" means "radial construction"
Designator "TT" means "tube type"

The "Born on Date" looks like this:

Speed Ratings look like this:

Mag-- I was wrong. My tire is not a 705. It is a 700. My mistake.

As for size, I bought the 130 80 18, but the next one might be the 4.6 inch. A little cheaper, and basically the same size.

Just finished my shakedown run in Moab, the White Rim trail. Planning on training this summer and then doing the AZBDR in October. I purchased the Touratech Husky Demo bike.
