  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

o9 te 510 crankcase oil leak.

510te

Husqvarna
AA Class
Ive got 2000ks on it and have noticed oil is weaping from between the cases underneath along the gasket line all the way from the front to back and driping on the ground about a inch diameter pool every two days..also the same on the magneto cover underneath weaping along the gasket..should this be covered under warranty?? i know that its a big big job to replace the case gasket but it shouldnt leak and the bikes under warranty..just your thoughts as im taking it to the dealer tommorow to see what he is going to say.

I have a leak along the center case as well, TE450, when you go to the dealer, ask the mechanic what this silver plug is, under the oil pump area.

Found ALL the crankcase fixings were in need of a tighten after 200 miles of riding - from new. I've gone round the whole bike and checked every fixing and low strength Loctited everything else. You might just find the case bolts need torquing up with an 8mm socket. The only one I couldn't get to easily was behind the frame, adjacent to the rear brake pedal. Hope this helps

Pretty sure it is a plug inserted into the case half after machining a passage for oil flow that could only be machined by going through the outside of the case at that particular angle.

bike is in the shop now with all paper work including receits for services now im awaiting an answer from husky to see where i go from here.i tryed nipping up all the bolts but think it was too late. also the mechanic told me he has seen a few stating that husky use a metal gasket coated in rubber that basicly falls apart with vibration. i asked if there was a revised gasket and he reckons that there aint. so basicly if they have to split the cases which has to be done to fix the oil leak they will be using the same gasket..its a shame and really annoying to be disturbing the engine as it runs just fine.. i just hope it is the same bike once it has been dismantled..question is should i put up with the leak or risk tampering with the whole engine??

That sucks! Were the case bolts loose? Betting 1/4 turn most of them.. Is the motor not under warranty with only 2k on it? In answer to your question it has to be done as the leak is unlikely to stop. If you're left with no option but to shell out then I would tighten all fully, thoroughly clean the leaky area and monitor.

I tightened mine up and my middle leak (see pic above) is gone for now. I painted the silver plug with super-glue, the leak is slowed but still there, I will address that one more completely the next time I have the clutch-side cover off.

I would never split the crankcase on a new bike for a leak. Too many other ways to deal with it. Before I addressed the 3 leaks in mypic, I stuffed a rag between the motor and skidplate, mine is a new bike as well.

Mine also leaked after a couple hundred miles, I went through the entire bike and torqued everything I could find, no problems with leaks since.

Mine also leaked from the center of the cases on top near the starter and near the back after a few months of ownership. Torqued all bolts to spec and problem was solved.

update... looks like husky has approved the fix. dealer tells me they are waiting on the gasket. but i asked if they would be re ringing the engine and the bloke behind the counter(which i dont think is very mechanicly minded) tells me they wont need to pull the barrel off the piston which im sure you do to split the cases..any opinions and what should be getting changed other than just the case gasket?

ive just downloaded the service manual and from what i can gather there is no gasket at all.. it seems that it is assembeled with loctite 510 from factory... can anyone here confirm this? as the mechanic i was talking to was telling me that he has seen a few leakers and that there is a rubber coated metal gasket there. now im worried if he dont know his stuff.

Just my opinion here but I really wouldn't let them touch it if that's the vague response you're getting. Go with the majority advice and torque up all the fixings. At worst it'll still leak and you get back to the garage. Likely result is you'll be ok and keep the bike in your hands where you can use it and monitor it.

another question. should the dealer be giving me any sort of warranty on the engine now that its been pulled into a million pieces?? just want to know as the factory warranty runs out in 3 months and if it starts rattling or vibrating or leakin again in say 6 months where do i stand then??

I just looked at the parts fiche for your bike and there is in fact no gasket between the cases. This is very common on all brands of bikes. They just use a sealer to seal up the two case halves. I would just try to torque the bolts and clean the oil off and see what happens.

I think your shop is full of sh*t.
Theres no gasket, just sealant on the halves. Ive redone my 250 2 years ago (bought used) and the previous owner brought it to a shop to get them to some repairs - they did a poor job sealing.
The locktite product is anerobic as opposed to the 3M product that dries quickly. Ive redone 4 engines since (long story) and on both my other husky motors have not had an issues since. (Althought 2 havent been run yet

The silver plug seems to be the oil pressure relief valve - not much you can do there as its press-fit in (warranty issue). You could just clean that area very well (degrease it) and seal it with epoxy or JB weld.

THANK YOU, that makes perfect sense, the oil pump seems to right above this silver plug, and it is a pressed in kind of fit, I will be sealing it next time I change oil.
