  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

OE vs Malcom smith petcock thread pitch?

alright so I am working my through a rebuild and am putting a MS desert tank on since the steel tank is in pretty rough shape. I have an OE petcock but the MS threads are much coarser. I am trying to find out the thread pattern for the MS tank spigot and having no luck. it might be time to make a trip into the local specialty fastener store and ask them to check it. ultimately I am looking for a petcock that will thread on to the spigot for the MS thread pattern

Alternatively I am also on the hunt for a MS tank spigot that has OE threads. this seems to be a unicorn, although I do know is exists as the 430 desert tank I have is set up this way.

If this continues to elude me I may end up having a shop turn a few of them on a lathe for me as its just a simple flanged bolt with a hole down the center. Finding some people who would want to maybe do a group buy would likely drive the cost down but i have no idea how much demand there is for something like that.

thanks for all the help guys. I ended up cutting a 5/8 zinc bolt at the shoulder, cutting 16x1 threads and drilling a hole for my own custom made bulkhead fitting. this bike is an equally fun and frustrating project. BTW if anyone here was at the desert 100 in WA this last weekend you probably saw me
