• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ohlin shocks

B Class
I just purchased a 79 390 OR and it came with 3 ohlins. None of them have springs and they are the piggy back style. I would love to find some of the stock shocks with the remote reservoir but will rebuild these either way. My question has to do with the type of shock I have. The casting is marked with HA9201. I believe the H is for Husqvarna but what do the rest of the letters/numbers mean. Any suggestion on rebuilding these shocks would be greatly appreciated.

Charley I have a pair of very rough, Remote Reservior Ohlins for parts if your interested.
Ron

Charley,
The H code is for Husqvarna, The A code is the length code (350mm, I think), the 92 and 01 are the respective compression and rebound damping codes. If I recall correctly those shocks are from an 81-82 CR and/or XC.

Regards,
Paul

Thanks for the information. I will keep your offer in mind Ron. Paul will these shocks work on a 79 OR or is the travel different for the 81-82 CR and /or XC?

Charley, If you end up deciding you want to sell those shocks to replace them with year specific ones, please let me know. Thank you.

Visiteur, very nice job on those shocks. I hope I can match your standards. It looks to me like all the parts are available for rebuilding my piggy back versions but I am still hopeful to find the correct ones with the remote reservoir. If I can find the correct ones I might be interested in selling these. Thank you all for your information.

Chris, Can you send me some information on your shocks? If they are for a 79 or 80 I might be interested. ceshort57@gmail.com

Thanks Charley
Hey Charley, They are on a 1979 husqvarna 250wr bike i just bought. They are not rusted or anything and i can pictures for yu. The guy repainted them and did a terrible job. The stainless hoses look great. They are missing bumpers and mounting fittings. I am looking at racing the bike and people are telling me to ditch them. I am not restoring for authenic look. I will be ridding this bike. Let me know what pictures you want me to take.

Thanks Chris

The 79 shocks are shorter then the 81-82 ones, but the 81-82 style will fit on the older bikes. I have a 82 shocks
on my 80 390CR.

The 81-82s that I have will still work on a 79? looks like they are about an 1-1/2" longer. But that might balance out the suspension with the longer forks that the 79 and 80 had. I believe my forks have 300mm of travel like the 80s and this definately seems to be a bit out of balance with the rear. What do you think?

Charley,
Yes the 81 shocks are longer, you need to pull down your forks the same amount to balance things out, know matter which
shocks you decide on. OR & CR have the same shock length, just like the later XC & CR 's. My 80 390CR has 40mm (81) forks
on it, but my old 35mm forks easily had the extra length, so they could be pulled down  .
