• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ohlin shocks

I asked ohlins and it seems they don't make them any more. My lines are destructed because the thread is damaged and nobody can cut a proper 1/8bspt thread!!!

I have asked around and the only solution is to fabricate them from parts. I had heard there was someplace to get the hoses premade but can't find it.

If your 1/8-27 NPT threads are bad, you could try a 1/8-28 BSPT thread. Buy a cheap tapered BSP adaptor and try it. Just dont screw it too far in as you will need this for the final fitting if it works. Tapered threads are known as a "deformation" thread. Each time you unscrew it and then re-fit, it will go in just that little bit further to seal. Eventually it will run out of depth (or deformation) and you will be scuppered. There are ways around it, but it would take some careful machining and a different thread form.

Drew Smith as WER has done many Ohlins for me and others and never seems to have issue with parts. He is doing some 79 WR remotes for me now and he has a source for parts. Shaft is bad on one of these he is doing now and Ohlins USA is not always the source and I believe he gets stuff from Ohlins and others overseas. 2 weeks for parts so plan accordingly.
Great work and never dissapointed with his service.

Thanks John. I seem to be getting more and more confused on what Ohlins I have and what I need to be stock. The ones i have are the piggy back which are 17" eye to eye. I have seen posts stating that 79 ORs had Ohlins from 15-3/8" to 17" eye to eye. Any help would be great. I will give Drew a call. Thanks again.

Charley,
My 80 390CR had 16" c-c shock on it, but i also put 17" c-c piggy backs ones on it. Your bike has the same basic frame layout so you'll
be fine, as long as you pull the forks down to match. I have 40mm forks from a 1981 , which will also bolt straight on to your bike too.
I measured my forks with tape measure & i basically have approximately 12" of distance from the bottom of the lower triple clamp to
the top outside of the seal boot. As a matter of a fact my 390 jumps as well as my 83 250
with 18.5" c-c shocks on it.

Google "Works Performance Shocks". On there site they have a Chart that will give you the Shock Lenght's for just about every Motorcycle ever made and maybe a couple that havn't been made yet.
