  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil level with sight glass?

ripnriding

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hey guys/gals,

Before I take this out with it's first oil change since purchase quick question. Previous owner indicated oil 1.7L with oil filter change and 1.5L without. I changed the oil filter and cleaned the other two metal filters as well. Oil was kinda in need of the change...Put in MOtul 7000 10w 40 as previous owner also ran this (living in Kingston temps currently single digit celcius). Okay...here's the question. Considering I have the sight window in the 7602 cover...what is the best process for checking oil levels? Thanks in advance....waiting for roads to dry and then anxiously the snow/water!!

Comparing my 06 (7602 cover) and 07 (stock cover, but same engine), the oil level window is at the same level as the original cover's oil fill check screw. I just make sure the oil is visible near the top of the sight glass. Not sure how much that translates to quantity wise. I have a Rekluse under the 7602 cover on my 06, might impact the measurement a very slight bit.

I ususally have the level at the mid point in the glass when the bike is fully vertical.
I also believe that the oil you are usung may be overkill if you change as per operating instructions. The cheaper Motul 5100 semi syn 10-50 or 10-40 will do the job brilliantly and muck less. Just sayin.

I just researched the answer to this previously posted question for the following reason. Just did my 3rd oil change (motul 5100 semi 10W 40....cheaper and agree with you here) and ensured I properly drained from all 4 sites. Filled with recommended 1.7L and oil is currently in bottom 3rd of sight glass. I am feeling pretty confident that the oil is "in there" and have followed to spec...will go for a quick little rip to see if some of this oil "resettles" to reflect a slightly higher level. Beauty afternoon for a riiiiiide :)
