• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

View attachment 26627 Myself, Nolan (my 10 year old) and Magneto our 2 yr old lab mix loaded up the van with 2 xr100's and set off to Pocatello, Idaho. Our mission to pay respects to Aunt, Uncle and cousins for the loss of my cousin Matt. Matt 51, died after living a lifetime with a defective heart from birth, this man beat all odds and became a father, a grandfather and lived a great and happy life. Goodspeed Matt!

I'm sorry you lost your cousin, Jim, but I'm glad you got to celebrate his life in an extremely positive way!
You can keep posting the thumbnail photos like you're doing now. Better than no photos!

Thanks for the great words ray ray, Woodschick (Hello Eric, how are you man?), and Coffee. Thanks for the photo posting directions, once I start posting more I will get it down (I hope).
 
We found a great sand wash to ride on our way to Gerlach, leading us way up to this spot with a big rock outcropping.

You can see Black Rock Desert from the top. And Nolan got a little seat time in the van in the desert.

Nice report and pics. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the memory of a loved one than being with your son out
on the trail. BTW, is that Bigfoot country ?
 
Yes, so great out there, we've been doing it since my son was about 3 yrs old. I just need to report on it more often. Our favorite is heading to Four Corners area for the monsoons every July/August area where desert is always wet.

Yes that bailing wire Bigfoot we saw at a visitor museum close to Gerlach, it looks like a burning man leftover.

A wet desert due to a monsoon report might would be pretty cool ... As long as a flash flood does not get you, it's safe out there at that time of the year?
 
A wet desert is special, for sure! The smell, alone, is reason enough to make the trek when the weather is good. I just spent a week in northwestern NV and it was gloriously green! Oh, and my Rev'It gear really does keep me dry in downpours :thumbsup:
