• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Out and About (Terra, Strada)

Hi welcome to the Forum. Your English is fine, waaaaay better than my Finnish for sure. I love that these forums are international, it's great to read stories from riding in other places and see the photos.

Yikes, you ride in snow like that on a regular basis? I tried some snow riding before and it was miserable. Maybe with the right tires/studs/spikes/??? it's better.

I'll post better pictures when the winter arrives for real. My previous photo is poor quality
I'm trying to ride whenever possible, and the temperature up to -15 degrees. About 4 months a year driving season in winter conditions.
Studded tires of course.
Front tyre, Mitas XT-444, 300psc stud. In the middle tire stud is 5mm out and edge of tire stud is 8mm out
Rear tyre, Kenda K760 Trakmaster, 240psc 5mm stud

Terve tokor. I'm new here too and of Finnish descent. We have the opposite here in Perth Western Australia, up to + 45 degrees in summer - no stud tyres needed. I only recently bought a Terra second hand and should be receiving it next week. Waiting for the fun times to begin.

The fastest multi-road/track motorcycle-expresso-barrista in the southern hemisphere.

Tks for looking in...with the weather playing along it was easy enough to get some half-decent shots.
Looks like there's more lined up for tomorrow :applause:

Sunblock plus dust does that ! I'm a bit knackered from a great day out - will post some pics tomorrow. Thanks for leading the ride Glitch :applause: .

Went out for a drive today. First pic is a dare. Not on the 650.

And I swear, I'm always running across people flying when out and about. Hangliders mostly, but today I ran across a regular glider port. The tow plane is wicked cool. Just an awesome sounding machine.

This was Monday.

:D
Trust in bike, tires and driver is hard :D Even so, run with patience and care, videos will show between too reckless

Here's a picture of the front tires, that does offer some grip and the rear tire is same style.
Road was also very familiar :o I love to drive that type of roads, those are the very best road types :)

We'll see when I get rid of the moderators, the previous message, it took about 30h that it was published :excuseme:

Do not always believe local knowledge :naughty:

We were out and about in Cebu on one of our now regular trips across the mountains to Moalboal.
The roads where we stay are not perfect but the Strada copes well, just have to be extra careful when it rains.

mini-01.JPG

One day we decided, pretty much on the spur of the moment to explore parts of the Vegetable Highway and up to Osmena Peak, the highest point in Cebu.
Looking at Google Maps and enquiring with the locals we were told it was a great place to see and that the road was good,
"Cemented all the way" that's what they said

mini-02.JPG

Well it wasn't what I expected but it wasn't too bad either and as we climbed up from the town of Badian the scenery was very nice, but pretty soon the road wasn't cemented at all.

mini-03.JPG

The weather was good and no sign of rain, and so we went on, climbing higher and higher.

mini-04.JPG

Did I mention the scenery.........after all that was the reason we went I suppose.

Anyway back to the scenery.......

mini-05.JPG

Now we were pretty high above the town and having seen the local Habal Habal (Motorbike taxi) guys passing us on their stock Honda 100 waves carrying up to four people, we though we might as well carry on. The map showed that the road would improve.......hmmm

mini-06.JPG

My co pilot was getting less impressed and the road wasn't getting any better...and then it started to rain, not a lot by Philippines standards, but just enough to make the going a little slippery.

mini-07.JPG

Eventually we neared the peak and things were still going well...and it had stopped raining...all good to continue onwards.

mini-08.JPG

Remind me, "the road is cemented all the way" yes sure it is, wet rocks and road tyres don't go together too well and we had our first 'off' albeit at low speed with no damage to ourselves.

So we picked ourselves up and did a quick inspection of the bike, which seemed ok.

mini-09.JPG

Phew got away with it....only a bruised ego and a little damage.

mini-10.JPG

Well I said I got away with it, after all it was only her footpeg broken, not mine....what was all the fuss about

mini-11.JPG

Ok, ok...now she did have something to moan about, monsoon season, heavy rain and road rapidly turning into a river.
I wondered why we hadn't seen any of those Habal Habal guys for a while and certainly not up this far.
Treacherous conditions for road tyres and a heavy bike needed radical action....Time to go home!
Going up my co pilot weight (all 35 Kg of it) had helped with giving the rear wheel some grip, but going down was different.
She had to walk while I gingerly edged the bike down the river, did I say it was "cemented all the way".....Hmm.:naughty:

mini-13.JPG

Back on the main road, no further damage done and we laugh at locals improvising in the torrential rain.

It was a pretty good trip after all, but looking back I can say we were foolish and lucky, very lucky.
Next time I will not be believing the locals about how good their road is, nor will I be doing such exploratory trips with only one bike.
I will probably get myself a Honda Wave 100 to do a recce on first ....haha.
