• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oval Case Motors

Sorry now I understand the cross is not bolted and the c-endure is. But are the cross motors 8 speed? Or are the c-endures the only 8 speeds for the 71 year.

Its my understanding that the 71 360 C came from the factory with the 8 speed. Any of the Cross models you may see with an 8 speed was possibly one of a few that came from the factory 8 speed ready or was added by the dealer. Thats my guess.

I figured the cross was 4 speed and the enduro c was 8. How would you prove the factory or dealer switched the motor out? This piston looks primo from what I can see, tomorrow I'll get it out and take some pics. From what I've seen it looks sweet, no carbon or marks other than the dents in the crown from the PO. Thanks for the insight Crash.

I suppose they would use the motor that came with the bike just add the 2 speed splitter. It would require changing the left crank stub which is labor extensive.

Heres an exploded view of what it would of taken to convert a 4 speed cross to an 8 speed except for the clutch, the only part needed was the basket.

Talked to John at Vintage Husky and he said the frame and motor numbers jibe so looks like I have 2 1971 360 c-enduros. I am happy about that. Got the new piston and installed it after a light hone, just to knock off the crud. Yesterday I took the ignition apart and freed the points, so now just the carb and exhaust to see if she will light off. Also the kick lever doesn't engage all the time so that has to be addressed. But moving forward.

While the points were free and the timing at about 1.7mm btdc, I could not get a spark at the plug. So I jumped the ignition wire from the plate straight to the coil, and still nothing. Pulled the whole thing and put it on the lathe and spun it slowly and got a spark. Put it back in the bike and with a little mix and a shot of ether.... WE HAVE A RUNNER!! A pressure test is in order also. I can't find the exhaust port, but will search again tomorrow and clean the carb. Then a good cleaning and we'll see what we got. I cleaned a spot on the frame and the rear rim and it looks promising. I hope the other bike works out as well(JINX).

Hahaha,I was wondering where i put that! The ignition probably wasn't grounded right, or the points weren't set properly. I usually have to do things 3 times:rolleyes: so I'm one a head on this one.

I don't see any oil supply. I put the small tube in the hole on the chain guard. How does it work and what am i missing?

I've never seen a valve like that feeding oil to the chain on a Husky and theres nothing in the parts list indicating its stock. The only chain oil application these early Husky have is a tube coming from the gearbox breather, which is located on the gearbox fill cap.

Got to ride the bike about 200 yards and the seals got her revving. Looks like a Full Monty!! I went up to my storage and found the exhaust manifold was on the other bike, i took the exhaust from that bike. The other bike has no lights and is missing a lot. So i think I'll do the same to it and make it a sweet rider to sell and make this the keeper after it is done!! You Guys... My collection is growing!! 71 360 c Enduro, 72 450 CR, 77 360 Auto, 83 500 XC.... where could it possibly go from here??:busted:

Took the second 360c apart and gave it a light hone, the piston was stuck but I did not destroy it like the other. Got the ring off and cleaned up the groove. Took the ignition off and found the right side shaft is broken and galled. The rotor is marked in degrees to 25 before and 25 after with tdc marked as well, I'll get a pic of that when I rip it down. Also there are 3 spots JB welded on the outside of the rotor, who knows what lurks there. The points were seized and were made loose with time, PB and movement. Cleaned the backing plate for contact and found more JB weld like the main plate is cracked. Cleaned it as best I could without disassembly and polished the contacts. Re installed it all and shot some fuel into the intake port. She fired, but would not rotate because of the rusted crank bearing. So this one needs a Full Monty as well. Time to order bearings, seals and gaskets. Since I have to split the cases I can replace the right stub and tune the cranks. Need clutch plates for both as well. The frames will be blasted and painted, fasteners off to the platter. Not sure what to do with these wheels as they are pretty rusty, can I get replacements? Looks like I better figure out the wheel lacing too.
