• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

picked up a cool '86 430 Auto...

For some reason your acquisition reminds me of this time I was heading "up north" with my 400 on the back of my truck. Some random guy came up to me at a gas station and started talking about his buddy's former bike he used to ride (if I had to guess, twice). He saw the 400 sticker on the side of mine and mentioned his buddy's bike that he used to ride was a 430. Out of genuine interest I asked if the 430 was the auto. He scoffed and said "nope, just like yours, only bigger".

Quite possibly the biggest tool I've never met. I bet his buddy put him on the 430 because he couldn't manage a clutch.

On a side not, as with others, I'd love to get my hands on an auto some day.

there was a container of 430 autos that was sent to some storage yard by mistake in 86 and they surfaced about 2005 or so. a mate of mine had a brand spanker in 2006 care of the aussie importer who got a few...

Looks like someone put the rear duckbill extender onto the front of the guard! The steering lock was a European feature on WR frames because the bikes could be road registered and needed to be safely parked. Autos use the WR frame .... and usually from the previous years models. Poor old autos get the leftovers from the parts bin!

Do the motors swap between Auto and standard frames w/o issues?
I believe the Auto motors will swap in, at least for the '87 - 88 frames. But I have not verified for certain. The motor cases are basically the same, so I hope so.
A brief look at the 86 Automatic Parts Manual, which only shows part differences, seemed to indicate Yes.

i own an 86 auto with a 400 WR engine in it. they swap in and out with ease no modifications at all.

speedy auto on here was swapping them around on a regular basis. he even slotted the auto motor into an 2005 frame from memory

he came down to home one weekend and we went for a spin but I think he flogged all his bikes and went of doing something else.

pretty sure that was his final wrap up. I believe the auto went back into its correct frame for sale and he had that 500 to put in the modern.

Tell Us more about the NW Husky Gathering ? A couple of years ago I went to the Portland Swap Meet. ( Automotive ) and about the only thing of interest to me was a 430 Auto. I had never seen one in person. The guy didn't know a whole lot about it he asked me what I thought it was worth. I told him I thought it was worth $ 4000 but it was going to take $3500 to make it worth that much. I don't think he liked my answer. Despite my returning to have another look I was able to resist the erdge. Having no place to put another project helped a lot.
