    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Ok so I have had a TE610 for a good few years. I have spent the last few days stripping her down, cleaning, servicing and pimping her back to her deserved former glory.

Anyway an update on the bike - some new, some old mods.
I lost the OEM tank, seat and front light and fender in a fire (along with 6 other bikes) but luckily saved this scoot as it was stored in a different building. Also luckily Xpat donated a 630 tank as he had fitted a Safari, I sourced a fuel pump off e-bay and sorted a seat (and most recently a Seat Concepts). I also did an airboxectomy - as some will know that the OEM one sucks - yes literally and figuratively - and can be prone to water ingress in river crossings. I fitted a foam pod Uni filter and cover sock under the seat in the battery compartment - the extra space for the filter was created by fitting a lithium ion Ultrabatt. This mod works brilliantly, especially with the power-up, JD Tuner and decatted and slightly shortened exhaust. I also fitted the 630 headlight and mudguard, HID headlamp and LED spots, Scotts steering damper, alu radiator guards, and a BMW Dakar screen. Headers are ceramic coated, Hyde bash plate, Pivot Pegz, TMD chain slider, Supersprox Stealth sprocket, Motosportz disc guards, ARC shorty levers, tail tidied and integrated LED tail light. Blazes had made some carbon fibre exhaust shields and engine cover protectors some time back and I added Husky logos and clear coated and have now fitted them. Yes a little BD farkelitis. So what I have is a bit of a 630 hybrid and I am in love all over again.

Do you have a part number for the Dakar screen?

I have picked up a few 2nd hand. The nice thing about them is that like the GS screens they are cast rather than a slumped polycarb screen. Therefore rigid and very strong. You can refinish them very easily as well if scratched - wet/dry paper and polishing compounds with a buffing wheel. Come back like new. You will need to shape the front edge to match the headlight and drill a new lower hole. I bolted it through the fairing with rubber spacers as you want a gap for laminar flow. I have one fitted to my HP2 as well - really are great screens if you want one not too big but functional (and I have tried plenty of options on the HP2).

Just wanted to share a couple pics of the new headlight: Polisport Halo. It's cheap, only $65, but a huge improvement over the stocker. Then again, my iPhone flashlight is a huge improvement over the stocker.

It uses a standard H4 and the pattern is pretty good. Next I'm going to upgrade to an LED bulb and see if it'll do the trick. These things are DC correct?

I realize the blue color is wacky, but it's a requirement from my club :)

I'm going to clean up the crank cases and probably paint the engine/ radiators just so that it will look in fairly decent condition. Current mileage is around 23,000 miles.
 
Cool air filter cover. Did you modify your stock one or is someone selling those?

I modified the original one. You have to get a larger piece of wire mesh to cover up the opening (I got black coated aluminium mesh similar to what you find on the very front of car grills) and I secured it to the airbox cover with hot glue.
 
Hi Big Dom, I had a question.... why didn't you bolt the uni filter to the intake directly? I mean why did you have to use all that tubing?

I recently bought a 4" uni pod for my 610. I am wondering what kind of filter to add to the breather hose, since I will be getting rid of the airbox completely. The tiny K&Ns that people use usually are not available in India. So I might fabricate something on my own...
