  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Pirelli scorps ????

I picked up a set of pirelli scorpions, the front is goooood! Spiky knobs, looks good and can't wait to ride it. My question is the rear. I bought a 120 cause 140 is just enormous only to find my bike came stock with a Michelin 140. Thoughts? Anyone else running a 120 on a te 450?

Much better to run the smaller tire. I ran a 120 for a while, then tried a 130. Will go back to the 120. Fits the rim width better and works well for single track and making turns, both in the dirt and on the pavement. Unless you ride a bunch of deep sand all the time, the smaller tire is easier to ride on.

Just an FYI, the Michelin 140 is about the same as all the other brands 120's, don't ask me why.:excuseme:

If you like the Scorpion front you'll really like the Motoz Tractionator, similar tread pattern (the Motoz is more agressive though) but the Motoz lasts forever.

exactly- I run Michelin s12's and I have a 140 on the 450 and a 130 on the 250. They also have a 120 which I assume is like a 110. I agree that the 140 is like a 120 but wtf is a 130 then? a 115. :banghead: Actually I think that's kinda accurate. I will probably get a Mich S12 130 for my te450 next time for the same reasons Dirtdame mentioned.

I ran pirelli scorpions, they cut soft stuff well, I am going to run a mt32, on the Te450 with a S12 rear. the mt32 was pretty much given to me. I think I am going to try the new Dunlop mx31softs on the 250.

Some tyres are measured across the knobbs and others across the carcass. I agree with size if you do a lot of ST then a 120 would suit best for turning etc.

The 140 rear tires are 140/80 first number is how wide second number is how tall that is refered to as "aspect ratio" a 120/100 is roughly the same size as a 140/80 use a 110 or a 120 on a 450.

The pirelli scorpions are a good tire. The front is better than the rear and they both wear out a little fast. If you like pirellies then use the MX Extra it is decent and wears well. For my money I will stick with the Motoz's. They hook better and last forever. Didn't think it was possible but riding is believing. Either the Terrapactor or Tracula fronts are awsome. Pick which rear fits your riding the best and don't look back.

No 450 here, but a 510 and 250. There is a big difference between a Michellin 140/80-18 S12 XC and a Michellin 120/90-18 AC 10. Maybe a half inch difference from the mud flap, with chain adjusters pretty much spot on the same. I am very happy with the 140 S12 XC on my 510. I plan to replace it with the same.

I run an S12 120-100/18. It was a pound lighter and the 310 turns much better with it. I'm going to try the narrower front soon.

I agree, unless your riding deep sand or mud, the smaller tire is better. However, the point of the larger tire for aggressive off road riding is to help prevent pinching the tube and getting flats, and damaging the rim. Of course those are so rare for me I prefer the smaller tire for less weight, lower seat height and the plain fact of it not looking like a monster truck tire on the back! I like to use a 110 100 18 or even a 100 100 18. I just picked up a Mich AC-10 120-something-18:banghead: Since its still a Mich, I hope it will actually be smaller than the stock 140.

I've had nothing but luck with my 140. It has gotten me 4000+ faithful miles of 50/50 riding. it still has 1/4 tread left, only reason I'm replacing it is because the outside deffinatly did not wear as "fast" as the inner. so when I go around turns on the pavement I can feel it rise up as I go into the turn. The narrower tires ride better on the road you say, Huh. Well I'm not getting 4000 miles on this set living on an island. Maybe when I get back to the real world I will try a set of 120s.

I just bought a 110 scorp for my rear. Since my 2000 Husky always have had 110 size. It's a great tire! i have put 500 miles it so far and they still look new. I think I am sold on this tire. I had dunlop before and I think from now on I will be using the scorpion tires. They aren't too cheap but they last a good while. Enjoy!!

How's the clearance on the can with a PIRELLI 120? I'm running a LEO VINCE on a 06 tc510 and it sure looks like it won't clear the can when bottoming the suspension. But then again the 110 looks like it will hit but doesn"t.

I am not sure about the 120. I wanted to use one but looks really close to hit the can. I played it safe and just stuck to what I have been using. The 110.

Over tyreing will kill directional change and is only good in sand. 250cc must especially not fall into that trap as it will kill performance and accelerate engine wear and rob fuel economy. 100 to 110 for 250's and 110 to 120 for 450's is a pretty good rule of thumb imho.
Another apect to consider is the tyre profile a higher profile ='s quicker turn a flater profile ='s better hook up.
By the way in NZ, UK and Australia we do spell tyres with a y.

120 I run them on my tc 450 I also ran them on my 250 2 strokes I prefer the bigger contact patch watch the side knobs on the scorps seem to start to tear off faster
