  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Dear husky guru,

I would like to know if this is under warranty. any dealer here care to help me. my bike have total of 4514 KM and is only 6 mth old. servicing is alway done at 1000km. tow my bike to the dealers and they told me it could be some carbon on the piston?:eek:sound crap to me. Please help me here thanks in advance.

That would have to be an awfully large amount of carbon. Seriously, I've never heard of carbon causing an engine to seize, and I've seen some carbon encrusted combustion chambers.

Was the bike running and just suddenly stopped, or what?
 
What does the spark plug look like; lean, rich or normal?

Did you ever get your water sensor fixed? Maybe it caused the engine to run lean.

Yah the bike was running and when i was slowing down the bike just stop.

nope i have not change the water sensor but every thing went back to normal 2 week ago after taking every sensor out for drying.
 
Dear all,

i would like to know what is the feeling or tell-tail sign of piston jam. i have brought my bike to the dealers and they say my bike does not have the problem of piston jam.

here is the story of how it happen.

(26/10/09 time 09.45pm)
I was on my way home from some night class and on the high way moving at the speed of 90++ KM/hrs at around 8k to 9k RPM, and i slow down at one of the bend the bike started to have cranking sound so i slow down and shift down 1 more gear that when the wheel lock and die on me. i quickly pull the clutch in and move to the side of the road to see what is wrong with my bike. putting it to neutral gear and try starting it, the starter motor seem to be stuck so i try to kick start and was unable to kick down the kick starter with the de-com lever pull in. so i ask my wife to tow my bike back home.

(27/10/09 8.00pm)
the next day i try to start my bike just to check if it has really jam. can't start with e start and kick start. going to tow my bike to the dealer in the afternoon. Total of 4514 KM and is only 6 mth old. servicing is alway done at 1000km.

the dealer told me that i can collect my bike saying that there is no piston jam and the temperature sensor was change under warranty and was the cause of the problem? as it stop the bike from moving??? ok i went down to collect my bike and went for a test ride to check if every thing is ok. less than 2km the bike jam on me agian and the bike die in the middle of the road and could not start. push it back to the dealer agian and show them what is wrong.

Question time.

do the sensor really cut off all starting mode?

when piston jam could the bike still shift in to neutral as i know 2 stoke cannot?

i have also started a 2008 Te250 with about 5k on the bike and compare with my bike which sound more noisy?
 
I think you have something wrong with the coolant system. The combination of the cylinder water temp sensor being very high and the jamming of the piston all point to the cylinder is not getting cooled.

The piston can over heat and expand to the point were it sticks in the cylinder. After it cools it can become unstuck, but you may have damaged both the piston, rings and cylinder.

You may have a bad water pump or blockage in some part of the water flow path. I hope you can find the problem and that no great damage has be done.

Have you checked the coolant level?
 
yah check it on the 27/10/09 morning all coolant at the correct level. but the engine oil is a little lower than half. still waiting for the dealer to call me on what is damage or what is the problem.
 
Make sure your water pump is okay. I read a thread a while back where some of the impellers were coming off and all apart on some models. If your impeller is trashed, it certainly won't move coolant through the system.

Yes I must agree.
Make sure your bike is cold, take off the rad cap, start your bike.
You should be able to see coolant moving in the rad with a flashlight.
You might have to rev it a bit...

If you see no moving coolant I would suspect a impeller malfunction.

husky guy i would like to know how long will factory reply a claim under warranty? for my bike with have a piston jam which is less than 6mth old and 4500km? cos it taking too long for a reply from my dealer.
