• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Preload adjustment wrench?

What's everyone using for adjusting preload? I don't have anything lying around, most of my other bikes have had a knob or been electric.

I managed to pick up an adjustment tool from a dealership, mainly deals with d/s and dirt bikes. Came out of a draw outback some where, only charged me $8 fit's perfect with an extension bar that slides on. Makes life easier, than a hammer and drift approach. I'd try some place like that. Lotta' dirt bikes used to come with adjuster tools. Otherwise talk to google maybe.

Do you know anyone that has a jap street bike? If so, they should have one, as pretty much all jap street bikes come with a basic tool set, including the adjustment tool for shocks. As to whether or not they're a standard size I have no idea, but worth a try.

My manual says, "Adjust the ring nut (1) using the spanner provided;" Provided? lol! If it's on the bike, I haven't found it.

I picked up my bike on Saturday and it came with a small tool kit that contains a spanner wrench. Granted it is p.o.s. quality, but it does have the wrench.

I don't think I got a tool kit, either! We have about 6 spanner wrenches in the garage and one of them fit sufficiently enough to get the job done.

I picked up and adjusting tool from Racetech. It looks like a big honkin' flat blade screwdriver with a bent tip and a heavy metal handle. You just put the tip in the adjusting collar notch and give the handle a whack with a mallet and it spins the collar around nicely.
