  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Project TE 250

I recently purchased a 2007 TE 250 the price was right, which means it would need a little TLC. It has an Athena big bore top end and as far as I know that's the only modification.
The back story I got, from the guy I bought it from, was that he bought it from a kid that had melted the piston racing his buddy on the highway, the guy I bought it from did the top end. He said it ran fine, though I noticed from the beginning that the case was oily, the over flow tank was dribbling water, and both radiators were pretty well smashed in though not leaking.
I figured the dribbling was because the radiators were compromised. I've since replaced the radiators, checked the water pump impeller(fine), flushed the cooling system and installed a 2.0 bar cap. im still boiling over within a couple of minutes of idling from cold. I preformed a chemical combustion CO2 test showing no sign of a head gasket leak. I'm getting good coolant circulation and have squeezed hoses and tilted the bike to get bubbles out multiple times. Am I missing something? Did this bike come with cooling fans, Cuz mine didnt?
Did this era of bike just heat up stupid quick and boil over from idling, that doesn't seem right to me, but this is my first husky and liquid cooled bike so I don't really have a reference. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

This generation of TE did not come with cooling fans. I know. I had a 2007 TE 450. I remember that the bike was not that easy to overheat, but when it did, it certainly backed up and out of the little coolant overflow bottle. I know that it was possible to damage or melt the overflow bottle if you let the coolant get too low in the radiators, as just hot air would escape into the bottle. A lot of people installed fan kits on their bikes at the time.
