• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

[q] TE 630 subframe reinforcement ?

Thanks to Bill at BMP in Salem, OR. The repairs are solid and the tailpipe and air box improvements are awesome! The bike is a brand new machine!

Idle is about the same, nice quiet thump. Under accelration, maybe a 6? Sounds a lot like a dirt bike now. Nothing that can't be cured with earplugs for the rider. Actually, it is safer on the road as drivers noticed me more regularly. No louder than my Harley.

No louder than my Harley. You had me sold until that line.

So to continue the hijack does anyone know if the FMF Speed is pretty quiet. I like the sound of the stock system but not the weight. Thanks!

They advertise 99db for the Speed.... I like the Q4 for sound, it's rated at 94db.

you do realize that loud exhaust is one of the sport's biggest enemies.

Blake-It sounds every bit of 99db when I wack the throttle open. I've got an email out to Bill to see what else he has that's quieter.

mnb-Agreed. Stock Harley pipes are pretty mellow. I like them. Problem is many Harley owners have loud pipes. To save lives ........ ;)

The Q4 is probably the quietest flow-through muffler I've ever heard. It all comes down to volume, it's longer and larger than most pipes.

Thanks Travis. Will plan on going the Q4 route. Probably won't be a problem selling my loudish Ti Speed.

The Leo Vince dual slip-ons are also very, very quiet....as you'd expect with a pair of cans doing the work.
Very nice mellow sound, not unlike the stock exhaust.

The Leo single system without the db killer insert probably falls somewhere between the stock system and the FMF Ti Speed.

Ordered a quiet core insert for the Speed. The FMF rep said it would bring it down to the 95db area. Hopefully is doesn't gag things up too much. Honestly with the PU kit and airbox mod the bike ran pretty good. SO major weight loss and equal performance to stock cans would make me happy. We'll see.

My solution for reinforcing the subframe, post 57 and 59 here: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/new-rack-for-te630-coming-from-turbo-city.20567/page-3

loud pipe or not, broken frame or not, I recommend that all take this trip.

Cool. Where's the movie??

BTW, this worked brilliantly for my Death Valley ride last weekend. Kolpin 1.5gl tank, rolie bag with about 12lbs, parka, gloves, a liter of water, over all manner of terrain from whoops to g-outs, washboard, nasty trails for about 400 miles. Nary a squeak. The bike is fantastic.
