  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Questions about different models

I currently have a Suzuki DRZ400S. I really like the bike but it is pretty heavy. I recently rode in my first hare scramble and now I'm looking for a lighter bike. I'm considering a WR 125 and have posted on the two stroke forum and received some great responses. I'm also looking at Husky's website at the 250 four strokes. There's a WR, a TC and a TXC. Can anyone shed some light on the difference between the WR and the TXC?

I'll start this with some quick points and others can finish off with more details:

2010 models (08 & 09 models very similar but Husky did make a much lighter engine for the 010 models ... )
1) WR -- 2stroke models - 125, 250, 300 - 5speed
2) TC -- 4stroke -- pure MX model racer - CARB - 5speed
3) TE -- 4stroke -- street legal dirt bike - fuel injected -6speed
4) TXC -- 4stroke -- cross country model -- 6speed - cross between TC & TE models

The WR models are 2stroke and bad a$$ I'd say ... lot here like the 125 as being a very fun bike with plenty of 125 power ... The 250 and 300 are the big boys ...

Many like the TXC models as they have a slight engine advantage over the TE models but the TE have the street stuff on them ... These bikes are dirt first, hi-way second as the gearing is too low for cruising ... You'll have to change the front sprockets at least to get a TE going 50-60MPH at the MID RPM range.

The TXC is more TC based ... engine performance close ... Same suspension but softer setup for the trail. Great single track \ woods bikes

Husky also makes a 310 and a 310 kit for the 250s... Many like these bikes and kits also.. There may be direct comparisons here on these bike so do some searches ... Most will say the Huskies are much lighter and higher performance than the DRZ..

You ain't gonna go wrong purchasing a Husky... BMW is their parent company and their future looks bright today

Thanx guys! My progression has been from road riding to dual sport to more focused woods riding of late. I really love dual sport riding as much as or perhaps more than anything else that I have done. However, it is not very accessible for me. I have to haul my bike for over 150 miles to get to the good riding areas that I know about so far. I don't like the idea of giving up my tag and not being able to ramble in the National Forests, but I also want a bike that will be a lot easier to handle in the tight stuff. As I improve my riding and my fitness I also want to enter some more hare scrambles. I want to have my cake and eat it too!

Don't we all!

I would think in your part of the country you should be able to find someone with a Husqvarna you could try for a quick ride. :)

The top/bottom gear ratio on a TE is about the same spacing as your drz (or even a sv650), the tc is MUCH closer spacing, like a crf450f. And the 610 is *much* wider, like a crf230f or klr250 - that information is a few years old but have no reason to believe it is changed.

It sounds to me like a 610 might be of interest, or a larger garage for 2 more bikes :p

I agree sounds like the only way to solve your dilemma. Is by owning more then one bike.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.:D

I hope try out a CR 125 tomorrow. I need to build a place to keep more bikes. These things take time.

That would be nice, but can't quite swing it right now. Besides, the DRZ is nice, but not that great for long hauls. I've long been sweet on the TE610s and I think that the new 630s are gorgeous! I like to think that I will be in a position in the not too distant future to spring for one of those.

I owned them all....WR TE 125/250 DRZ etc.

That CR125 will run rings around that DRZ you have now.
You can ride a 125 longer and faster than any other bike period, unless you are an AA rider or 220# you do not need anything bigger.

IMHO, the WR125 is best for racing. It is an amazing little machine.
Reliable, cheap and fast with a little more bottom end than the CR125.

Pick up a '09 leftover for about $4500 and roost.

I just bought an '10 TE250 and while it is nice it is $7500, and the 125 is still better longer.

Put a 144 kit on it and forget it.

:thinking:The time...it passes so slowly.

Go ahead and do some more searches here on this bike ... Plenty of good notes here on tuning it up and breaking it in ...
