• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Recommendendation requested for new 630 chain and sprockets

Huskyfly

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi all, my 630 is ready for a new chain and sprocket. I was hoping I could solicit some recommendations on which setup to go with. I've been running stock rear sprocket (47 tooth in the back I believe) and went down one tooth from stock in the front (14 tooth front). Please post or pm me with a good chain and sprocket setup and purhaps where's the best place to purchase it. Thank you for your time.

If I recall correctly stock is 15/42, not 47. Like you I went down one on the front & it is perfect for me.

15/42 stock, I went to 14/42 I feel that's still too high, most roads are 55 mph around here, running 5th at 55 mph is faster than the sweet spot and 6th is bogging. I haven't tried it yet but next new gearing I'm going to 15/48 or 14 /45. 1st will be a little slower and 6th good for 55+
Are you happy where your at? Change it accordingly.

14/45 and 15/48 are roughly the same.
I went with a 45 rear and switch the front between 14 and 15.

Paul, I am running 15/45 (Kush) and I think it is very nice on the road and still plenty adequate off road. 'Haven't found a need for anything lower yet, at least the way I use this bike.

I've played around with gearing on my old DRZ from 13/47 (which was perfect for the trails up here in Alberta) up to a 15/42 which was about as fast as I'd like to go on the highway with that machine. If you divide the larger cog by the smaller you'll get a number that fits into the normal gearing chart.
I've found my husky is pretty much dialled for the trails and is fine to bomb around town - dang near perfect:-)
I haven't played around with this chart too much but it might be "fun" to plug some numbers in and see what comes up especially if you know rpm's

PS I think the DID or RK "x-ring" chain is highly regarded, rear sprockets with an alloy carrier and steel teeth (like supersprocks) light & durable, front ??

Been using the DID gold x-ring on my 630 (same as mentioned in the video above) and feel it is a few steps up from stock spec product. Also use WD-40 for cleaning after washing the bike and avoid any type of chain lube.

Have stuck with the OEM Husky counter in a 15th and rotated in a 44 or the stock 42 depending on ride location and purpose.

Interesting, my SM630 came with the narrow x-ring DID 520VT2 from the factory (athough it's not gold, if thats what you mean). I've been looking for a new chain lately and it still seems to be pretty much the best narrow chain to get...

I run 14/45 on my TE610 for "normal" dual sport and trail riding and 13/45 for really gnarly stuff. The gearbox is so wide that even with 13/45 you can do everything short of interstate cruising. When I am riding with buddies, I don't even use 6th gear, because they can't go that fast or "normal" dirt bikes.

For a chain, just use a decent DID o-ring or x-ring chain. No tough decision making required there.

All good stuff peeps! BTW, Fast1, a good friend of mine told me about cleaning the chain with WD-40 and I thought it was one of those odd things......not that I didn't believe him or that it didn't work but I must say its a little contrary to all the stuff they sell a person to clean and lube the chain. Going to try this from now on.
