  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rekluse Install TE450

Hi All,

I'm installing a Rekluse clutch into my 05 TE450. The directions seem pretty straight forward... anything to be aware of or shortcuts to ease the process? I want to set the bike up for a slower single track rider. Is the set-up recommended by the instructions ok?

Lastly, there seems to be a fair number of posts floating around the internet concerning slave issues. Can you use the clutch normally with the engine running? Only with throttle? Never again?

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Dennis. I have an 06 510. I've used the rekluse since almost new, without hiccup. The instructions are pretty good. You'll get a feel for the two variables, the weight of the balls and the opposite pressure of the springs, to allow you to set it up for the right rpm engage and rate of engagement. It may take a few tries. I needed more of the heavier balls to get the engagement set at a lower rpm, which I liked (sounds like you might too). Beyond that, my only suggestions are (a) make sure you wear-in and adjust the clutch, which will likely take a few adjustments, before you take the bike out in the boonies (ask me how I know), and (b) make sure you have the cover screws loc-tited in once adjusted, or they will back out (ask me how I know). With my rekluse settled, it has given me about 4k miles without need for one adjustment. I took off the clutch, so no slave issues for me, and I like the LHRB setup very much. I hope that helpful to you. Enjoy. Ed

Thanks for suggestions Ed. Glad to hear you're happy with yours. I wasn't sure if this was right for my level/style... etc. Sounds like our styles are similar.... and your remarks are very encouraging!

Thanks again,
Dennis

Hi denmcken, If you undertake this process how about a few instalation shots or video. It would be welcomed by many I am sure.

I can do that.... I will probably do the install next weekend. I will post up with pics....

The instructions are very good. You should be able to breeze through. If there is a question, the guy on the other end at tech support is the engineer who designed it.

Did you get the Pro model?

No pro model for the 05 TE450... I wish they did, I would've ordered it.

I put a PRO on my 06 TC510 and like it except for the bike stalling sometime in a quick on-off-on throttle situation. (Thank the previous owner for the e-start). If I put a tack on and adjust the fuel screw before just about every ride it helps but doesn't completely cure it. Any ideas out there? I have the JD kit. Sorry about the hijack but you might be asking the same thing later.
