• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

removing chain guard?

A friend removed the chain guard on his Honda & got a red CNC counter sprocket guard that looks pretty cool. Does anyone make that for an sm610? Is it a bad idea to ride with the chain guard off? He races and wears boots so he wouldn't get his pant leg caught in the chain.

Thx

I got told off by the police for removing mine. Reckoned if the chain snapped it'd take my leg off. I didn't point out it was only a piece of flimsy plastic and it wouldn't make much difference. Yes officer. Ok officer. Thank you. Looks much better off but gotta keep it on as the only need the smallest of excuses over here :(

The police where I live are very tolerant of bikers. I would worry more about a snapped chain locking up the rear wheel, which could be a real nightmare!

I see you ride a Daytona 675. I have a Street Triple 675. Great engineering from your side of the pond!

ha ha! thanks! great bikes huh? simply awesome engines. it really doesn't seem lacking compared to the torque of the husky. it turns into an absolute animal at 9000rpm +! have just finished a ride around europe on it and she didn't miss a beat. including the nordschleife nürburgring!

Been mildly curious about this as well. The plastic guard does seem flimsy, and my rearward mounting point is almost totally broken, so I've thought about removing it and leaving it off. I've not heard of any instances where something really bad was attributable to it missing, but perhaps someone here will chime in with concrete considerations.

Took mine off on the TE 5k miles ago along with that useless plastic over the counter sprocket. 7602 makes a good case guard to replace that. I always wear full MX boots so not very worried about the chain catching me. I also got rid of that POS stock chain!

it's a much cleaner look too!

Great bike for sure. 9,000 rpm is devastating:)

Where did you get the red counter sprocket guard? That's what I'm looking for..

The chain guard is to keep dirty lube bits from flying all over. That's it. How many of you ran chain guards on their woods bikes????
If you don't mind a little fling it will run fine without it.

yeah...that chain guard is just for keeping grime and lube from flying around...I took mine off and looks so much better.

Yep, I took mine off too, I like the way it looks a lot better....less government compliant :D
Question though, what can I use to plug the two threaded holes the guard leaves behind?

Yeah they are...why?

I have the same ones on my 610. Thought they looked similar..They do look good. I think they went out of business. I'm looking for a pair for my Triumph, but no luck. Driven makes them too, but the puck is held on with a screw. They look
flimsy.

A buttonhead ss allen or torx cap screw will work and look good. Or paint one to match.
I was thinking I hadn't taken mine off but my pix shows I did. LOL. Can't remember which bike I did what to. :busted:
