• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

repacking stock silencer-dB ??

I too would like to make my '86 400 as quite as possible. I repacked the spark arrestor but I think I may need to add more packing. I was also going to experiment with wrapping the expansion chamber with a silicone baking mat. I'll let you know if that makes any difference.

screen type arrestors dont do much of anything for sound..some spark control and they like to plug up.

note the first wr watercoolers had a two piece cover to the main pipe with glass packing under it

as the packing fills with oil and pooh, the muffler effectively becomes a straight through "stinger pipe". loud... packing with new packing or steel wool will take the bark out of it. make sure the perforated tube is cleaned well before repacking. you will notice it pulls harder down low and signs off a tad earlier..

Happy New Year Everyone!

I need some advice. I'm rebuilding the stock silencer for my 1983 WR 250. Any suggestions on cleaning out all of the perforated holes on the long welded screen tube inside the body? Solvents? Special sandblasting tip? I would rather not have to cut this thing open.

Cheers!

wirewheel, a tiny phillips screw driver and a 6 pack of your favorite brewski. poke the carbon out of every little hole with the screw driver and get the rest off with the wirewheel.

his problem is the pref tube is welded into the silencer tube...try soaking in a caustic soda brew, can soften the carbon...TAKE ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS...Na Oh will remove many layers of skin and render eyeballs obsolete....

other option is the oxy torch up the cloaca of the pipe trick and get her reeeedd hot then tap it with a solid instrument to shake it out. NOTE it will stink the place out something shocking and ruin your immediate relationships....wife, kids neighbors and possibly the fire dept ....you have been advised:lol:

go camping and build a biiig campfire and use that....ive done this with good results.

Note for future thought, if we port and polish the exhaust it does raise the exhaust level a tad.

Really - toss it into a fire for 30-minutes? Never heard of that - it sounds almost too simple. When I take it out of the fire, I assume some tapping with a hammer here & there will do the trick?

Yup...1/2 hr depending on how bad it is..i do the same thing with pipes..just did it last month to my 79 CR...same silencer set up you have with the welded in perforated tube...once all the oil burns out and it cools it should be dry and powdery...get in there with a bottle brush and you should be good to repack
