  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Replacement Tank - 1970 Oval case 250

Hi

I have a 1970 250 that I've had running, torn down again, now going back together properly. I have the original tank that will at some point get restored ( finding a chromer is hard and expensive in the UK ) so I'm looking at the tanks on eBay made in India. I appreciate the quality will not be as good, but this will be a riding tank so as long as it holds fuel and fits, it'll do and it's better than what I've got.

The tanks on eBay are advertised as for a 1970 400. None of the vendors I've contacted can answer whether they will fit the 250. From everything I know, they are the same tank for the same frame. I just wanted expert opinion before I pulled the trigger.

Thanks in advance and if anyone knows someone that will do a full tank restore on these chromed jewels, I'd appreciate a pointer. The chap in France that used to do it has retired ( Claude visiteur1948 )

I can't say with certainty that the Indian tank will fit your 250 as I have no personal experience with them. However I can say with certainly that the Husky OEM tanks made from 1968 to 1973 and most 74's mount exactly the same with the exception of a couple of models that include the 4 gallon Desert Master and Sportsman monster tanks plus a rubber strap rear mount used on mid seventies stuff.

I finally did pull the trigger on one of the India tanks. The 70-71 400 Cross tank. Shipping didn't take as long as I though
it would, and there was tracking, of a sort. I had NO information from anyone in the Husky community as to what to expect.
It was a @$300 leap of faith. I was amazed at the quality and workmanship of the tank. (I've never seen a restored, or a perfect
survivor Husky tank in person) I will be proud to put this tank on my bike after it's restored. I have not tried the fitment of the
India tank yet, so I can't speak to that aspect. I'll MAKE it work. For me it was well worth the risk. The tank is sitting on a shelf
in my home. I just love to look at it. (The decals and the packaging were also very nice)

Glad your tank purchase turned out well. As for your comment regarding a lack of response, there was a comment made about the Indian tanks in another thread only a couple weeks before your post. Being part of a community includes checking out what others are up to not to mention using the search function thats offered on this site. I searched "indian tanks" and found this post that indicated this guy was happy with the couple he purchased.

Wish you the best with your restoration. ;)
