• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

restoring a Up-Tite 87 250 XC...

The black on the cases look awesome! Better than stock! I might like the cyl & head both silver. Not sure
I agree, ...can't go wrong with the cases color. They did turn out nice.
I almost did the cyl and head both in silver.
We'll see how it looks when its all together in the bike. If it looks like crap, I'll say "...won't do that again" !

I almost went this far... but thought a solid color would be too much. But I do like the Works bikes of the old days.
I'm trying for a "Works" look, but like Husky might have done, not Honda!

Maybe the yellow that could work on rims for huskies is the yellow rim color you see on the factory Suzukis. Its really more
like a Swedish yellow and I think it would look good on a husky.

I do love the blue/yellow sweeds. Look at some of dartyppyt's bikes. He has some tastefully done use of colors on his bikes. I'm sure your motor will look great as well.

a tip for fitting pistons etc. fit the piston into the barrel on the bench so you are 100% sure the rings are in the right spot then slip the piston half out of the barrel and drop it over the studs then pop the pin in through the piston and slip the clip in. slide the barrel down onto the cases all done. you need to support the back of the piston with rags to allow the pin to be knocked in.

Good one. I thought that might work and I was just about to do that when I got the piston to slide up. I remember that for next time.

I have a rebuild thread on the 400 here it has a nice pic of the red head....if I knew how to grab a link I would drop it in

OK, I'm back on the '87 250. Sorry for the delay... some vacation and other bikes got in the way ... :-)

I've been waiting on the 250 primary cover to be repaired... it took forever. I finally got it back. Now I can finish the motor rebuild.

The previous owner had kicked the hell out of bike and cracked a hole in the case. It had to be welded and formed again around the kicker stop. And the broken kicker stop screw had to be drilled out and tapped. See below in upper right where temporary bolt is in place

Just got the cover back from the coating guys today..

The coating guys did a great job on the cover and other bits. The Cerakote color is Sniper Gray like the engine cases.
I also had them coat the water pump guard and the brake reserviour guard.

Looking good I think. You can't even tell it was repaired.

I had to pause today and clean the garage / shop. After months and months of working on bikes and doing this 250 resto, the floor was grimy and crap was everywhere.
I'm sure you guys know what I mean! I degreased the floor and now it looks like new.

6 Huskys all in a row. Foreground is the 87 250 awaiting the motor, next are the two 86 430 Autos, an '88 430, a '14 144 CR, and a '12 310.

I'm rebuilding the forks on the 86 430 Auto after installing new sprockets, new chain, new rollers, fixing an exhaust mount, and installing the overflow bottle...
I decided to pull the front rotor and de-rust it... I hate rust! I could only soak 1/2 of it at a time. What a difference! That Evap-o-rust is great stuff.
