bad form.
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm a spectator here trying to learn something. The information I contributed above was what I could remember from a couple years ago when I decided to try one in one of the bikes. The information came from the internet though. Here we go again, internet research at its best![]()
It takes my about 15 seconds to clean the SS filter in my son's CRF450R. I use brake clean which immediately cuts through the oil and leaves the filter dry so that the particles that are on the filter, if there's any left, simply fall off or can be blown off with ease.ok all joshing aside- i have a client that insits on the SS filter, his motor is still hummin strong. again, good product! it just costs me a bit more to service as i have to take my time, use virgin solvent and use sterile measures (i wont put anything back into an engine if it aint spotless!), as opposed to tossing it. i at first charged him for it but he's regular so i dont anymore. he's had it for eaons too. darned if i can find a defect in it anywhere. good stuff, last oil filter you'll prolly buy!

The information came from the internet though.I suppose I could have gone to the library, but I'm way too lazy. BTW,I also mentioned the fact that SS filters have fewer square inches of filter fabric area and could plug up faster in the case of a major failure causing a flood of debris. Other than that, I can't remember any other negative things about SS filters in the searching I did.
If you have information that contradicts the claims regarding the SS filters, I for one would be interested in seeing it.![]()
I don't have info to the contrary. I see I came across as an ass here but did so with good intentions, really. There is nothing wrong with either type. I have issue with claims that paper are somehow inferior products and the data used to claim this.
If the claims about start-up wear (which are true) and paper filters adding to this were true, we would have autos, planes, lawnmowers AND bikes broken all over the place, but yet, we don't. All the filters work but none are worth a dam if you don't change your oil enough![]()
Edit, BTW I guess that I need to disclose that two of my excavators and Kenworth truck have bypass filters to catch the bypassed oil. It's all good.
I've been thinking about SS filters off and on and this thread reminded me and I have wondered if there is any new information.

I found a helpful instructional video that demonstrates the best way to clean an oil filter.takes me 21.3 seconds, cuz im thourough...and i charge by the hour. so there too-tall!![]()

From your pictures, it's not the filter that is the incorrect size, but the rubber gasket. I wonder if the gaskets are interchangeable on the 116's like they are on my PC 167's?
ThanksStainless steel used in the filter media is non-magnetic.
