• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rexxer ECU mapping....

Update. Made it to Redline Ducati. They are an authorized Rexxer support center. Met with David who is a bike enthusiast for sure and was really nice and very receptive. I gave him my bike with performance exhaust and all my stock parts as well. My stock exhaust is unmodified so as it was delivered. His plan is set up 2 maps if you would. One for a completely stock bike and one for a performance set up (exhaust and air filter) like mine is now. Everything he is doing will be done independent of the power commander but will be PCV friendly and I will be able to use mine. I stressed the need to eliminate the immobilizer and he will be working on that as well. I asked about a programmer and his thoughts are that only advantage would be for resetting service codes etc. I gave him run down on the lack of or limited MOSS tools and that would definitely be a "sellable " feature so he will look into that as well. All in all I think things should work out great for all concerned and will keep posting as I get info. Thanks go to Mag00 for all the legwork!

Just plain old Awesome...Thanks

The owner of the dealer asks me every time I see him about whats next in Terra/Strada performance, I'm excited for this.

Got a email reply on Friday. ECU is now out of the bike and on the bench. Will be reaching out to David before week's end and hopefully get a good update and post any significant results....Trust me, I am dying to hear and get the bike back!!

So you gonna buy a rexxer, or just go with the programming from David?

I hope to get both actually. I emailed him about getting one as well as his reprogram so will see. Not a 100% sure what the benefit will be other than reprogramming scheduled maintenance reminders and fault codes if I understood correctly.
I am itching to call him but don't want to be a pest and let the "artist" do his thing.I will here soon though, really curious on progress. (Have you heard anything?)
Biggest thing is I am trying to co-ordinate a trip down there for work and pick up the bike. Of course work first so will see how that pans out.

Like you, I don't want to be a pest. Trust me when I say I really am anticipating the results.

My understanding is the Rexxer stores 2 maps. The benefit would be if you are long hauling to Moab or something, you could then upload the map for the slow and go, then put it back for the road again. I wonder if a different map for 1 or 2 up would make a difference. I'm confident these issues have been addressed on other bikes, and tweaking a map would be close enough using general stats, not needing a dyno run.

I'm hoping to have one map for general purpose, and one for expedition. The one for expedition would have the immobilizer off, while the general purpose would have it on. That way if my bike got stolen in town, at least I would stop them from using it.

And who knows what cool mods will come down the pipe later.

Should I call him, how did you introduce yourself to him so I may reference you? He knows me as Dave. (if he remembers lol)

It's hard to remember that the Terra is not the only bike they service, but hopefully he will remember us.

Absolutely Dave. Please feel free to call him. You are the lead dog in this really. I did tell him I was there with "donor bike" because of you etc and told him "hi" from BMW Dave as you said to say. He remembered you.
As i mentioned up a bit, his goal was to develop 2 maps, one for a stock bike and one for a mod bike which consists of the exhaust and airfilter. PCV and autotune will work on either bike and maps being developed w/o them in mind. I did have to mail him filter as I didn't have it for bike delivery, but it was right after.
We discussed eliminating the immobilizer and a rexxer for maintenance codes etc.
I am not going to be traveling down for at least another week to 10 days for work at this point but could change at a moments notice if anything unscheduled pops up. So, there are a multitude of reasons to have him finish sooner than later but not pushing it at all. I only emailed him once last Friday since bike was dropped off. Please let me know what he says etc.

I figure no point in bugging him now for awhile. I won't be able to ride for a few more weeks anyway. After I get my Rexxer and remap mine, I will run it to the dyno again and post results. I also am at 3k feet. So different maps for altitude may be needed. He has dyno sheets from mine already, but not stock sheet at altitude.

My pipe is home made the can/silencer is a modified one from a 700 raptor, so my mapping may be different. I am considering making a custom silencer, and use some of the principles used as RE may in his other hobbies.

$600 bucks is not that big of a deal. The auto tune and pcv combo cost that, and that is a bolt on expensive spoofer, which has problems. The Rexxer, as you mention, can reset the codes and params back to factory, while leaving the new improved map alone. I think there are a few here who have the wrench icon showing.

I'm just hoping the bikes run as good as other reviews state, otherwise I will have some major egg on my face. Actually, I'm not hoping, I know it will.

I do hope David pops in here though.

On second thought, I think I'll fire of an email to just check in. I assume you are also a Dave, as in a post you have where it looks like a response from an email.

I am Dave III in all of this, Lol. Let me know what he says....

I'm interested in the end results too. I've been riding 'around' the flat spot/stall zone pretty well but still get that pesky stumble and the occasional stall. If Dave can deleat the imobilizer and kill the stumble Im in.

Hey Mag00, did you email? I will if you did not. Might even call. THanks

Ok, I just called. Word is he is still doing his R&D. Did not get to talk to him. Will shoot an email to and see if he can elaborate any significant findings.

I have to log into a different email account to get to David. Seems early on, I did not get replies using yahoo, but when I went to my davesbmw account it went through.

At my dealer, since I have had my Terra, there is one other that has been sitting in service for drivability issues. I keep my service manager informed on new and handy things for the Terra. This guy who has his Terra in, is actually pursuing the lemon law to get his money back.

They have had the factory rep out and cannot replicate his issues. I offered to buy the bike cheap. I offered to talk to the guy and go riding, but there seems to be no interest.

Also asked about battery warranty, and they will replace the battery for the full warranty period of the bike.

But yea, I will drop a line in a day or so, just mainly to ask if he needs any more technical or other data, info etc. I will also remind him about the dyno sheet at altitude etc and of course the immobilizer. All worded friendly and supportive as best I can.

Of course. No worries. Let me know what you find out. I have only ever reached out once a week. Don't want to be a pest but seems like a lot of people are waiting for info on progress. Any news would be good news. Thinking it might turn out to be a bit longer than 2 weeks but well worth the wait. I am going to start working on getting some upgrades for suspension and wheels next. That should keep me busy.....

OK, fired one off. hopefully he will find time today to respond. I would rather that he focus on the ECU vs answering emails. I asked for ETA if possible. I also put my desire to purchase one right off.

Hopefully a early Christmas gift to myself. :D

OK guys, will the Rexxer work by itself or does it need the PCV? Does it replace the existing ECU? I am trying to decide what exactly this would do for my performance vs going the PCV/AT route. Drop some knowledge on me please.

It is sort of a moss tool substitute. You do not add or remove anything from your bike. You get the ability to upoad new maps to the stock ecu, giving performance you should have got from the factory. You can use it to read trouble codes and reset those codes, if you bike is having trouble. It eliminates the need for a pcv or other performance spoofers for all except the most hard core racers and maybe even them.

Each Rexxer gets the vin number programmed into it, and only works on that bike unless you spend buku bucks on the pro models The user model is $600, about what a pcv and autotune will cost, but no extra weight, no spoofer, and the Rexxer reads and resets codes that your ecu may generate, trouble codes, maintanance codes, and we are hoping can turn of the immobilizer. It plugs into the diagnostic plug under the seat where the moss tool would be hooked. Does not stay hooked up.

It is a hand held tool, that stores 2 fuel maps, so you can change maps if you pull a baffle for racing. You can upload new maps that Rexxer will custom make for the mods you may make. Usually you need a dyno run so they know what needs to be changed. For over $2k you can purchase the software to create your own fuel maps, such as possible with the pcv.

Most of us never need that elaborate of controls.

The PCv autotune is widely used and most dyno guys can set you up while your bike is on the dyno. Some talk out there about our ECU's compensating for the pcv and autotune, as we have a very smart, hi tech ecu in our bikes. This compensation, as some say happens with a booster plug also, tries to bring the O2 levels back to what is programmed into the Terra's ECU from the factory. The rexxer eliminates the need for any bolt on spoofers by putting a correct map into the ECU, and that is what David @ rexxer is doing as we speak, that is, cracking the ecu and creating the new fuel maps (maybe even ignition maps).

Simply put, it fixes the Terra without adding anything. And is a diagnostic tool. Mini Moss on steroids.
