  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Why did you open it up to begin with? And it broke after you worked on it? How did you break it in and what is UR oil mixing ratio?

it was due for a top end @2000kms, so i replaced the piston and rings with an athena piston. it was perfect till the implosion:banghead:.
i use full synthetic shell oil @40:1

Man thats bad luck Anth? Curious, you didn't play around with the power valve setting as a mate of mine had something similiar happen after his 360 ring nipped the valve.
Take to Electrosil and they'll replate the bore good as new...whilst your at it, get them to order in a new piston and ring to suit the bore size.

Jay

i didn't change the PV settings
I'll send it to Electrosil once i save up $600

Gees Ant, I would sell that bike you just don't seem to have any luck with it. Some bikes are just lemons & should be put down. Go trade it in on a WR300, you will be a lot more happier, mine has been flawless so far

I considered a 300 upgrade untill i got the price @$1600 for the cylinder
and $600 for a piston kit:doh: crazy prices :excuseme:

That must be some kind of fluke problem. When I bought my used WR250 (in the fall of '08) it had a new OEM piston installed by the local dealership. Due to jetting issues with the mikuni I promptly seized it. I then let it cool off, broke the motor free and have been running it ever since. It had 200 psi of compression the day that I brought it home, it now has 197 psi using the same tester. Several xc races and trail rides later, using Klotz oil. I have never even removed the head. I often times get the Vet B holeshot.

Now that I type this, it'll probably blow up tomorrow!

i haven't had a good fun so far with my 2009 husky WR250

  1. i've busted the kickstand bolt
  2. smashed paper thin stock chamber on second ride
  3. peeled the shroud and side cover stickers
  4. the screws under the seat /side of shrouds ripped my seat cover
  5. replaced speedo battery and lost my Km count
  6. broke the speedo cable twice
  7. had the headlight fly off (now its cable tied on)
  8. same for the tail light (used long timber screws now)
  9. 1 set of forkseals
  10. & rear brake freeplay problems caused rear rotor to overheat and turn blue
  11. OEM gear lever flogged out and got replaced
  12. swingarm is being eaten by angry mudflap
  13. rear brake rotor almost fell off by itself
  14. revloc dynaring stopped working after a crash
  15. the speedo is full of water,
  16. the switchblock has corroded,
  17. the headlight stopped working
  18. and the registration plate fell off
  19. mainjet fell out of carb on a ride
  20. seized powervalve bearings
  21. the subframe bolts failed now my side panels are cable tied on
  22. 1 piston kit replaced
  23. and seized within 5 hrs =repair cylinder and another rebuild $1000AU

...all in 2000kms/ 1 year

Sorry bud, but you may need a new mechanic!

fair call, my husky just has a few teething problems :lol:
i'll re-plate the bore and rebuild it professionally and see how it goes:thumbsup:

Nice list, Anthony.
An awful lot in an awful short time.
My 09 300 is a bit like that.
9hrs on it, speedo knackered,
Corroded switch block
Bent POS gear lever.
But these 3 happened with less than 2.5 hrs on it

By the way, in your 2nd vid, where was old mate walking of to? Was he in shock or something?

some things are understandable, but really, some of those items seem more like maintenance, or you've stacked it,

can hardly write it off yet.

only prob ive had is front brake fade (i cooked it), replaced the fluid been good since
and 1 front fork seal had a minor leak after a big bottom out off a jump, but i cleaned the seal out and stuck some grease up there and all good. Again my fault.

Apart from that i love it

$600? They fix this sort of thing in the US for under $200 in 5 days it's back like new!

Ive just read your post... that sucks especially all the problems you have had since day 1 kinda takes the fun out of it really.. best of luck with sorting it i hope it gets sorted and you have no issues for ages.... if there is one thing that i hate most of all is rip of prices, why is it so much more costly where you are compared to another posters cost?

its wrong...

buzuki.. what does shoving some grease up the dust shield do... stop further ingress of dust or stop fine leaks from escaping???

That's a pain Anthony_1978,mines been re-nichosiled and had the bore repaired from owner #1 trashing it,i'm owner #3 and have since put another 5,500 k's on it,and it's still hanging together. So happy with their repair quality.............

I thought the 300 conversion would need a new pipe too?

$500 to re-plate incl post both ways
Extra $100 to weld damaged cylinder scoring

With the Aust$ at the moment, it may well be worth it including piston, rings etc.

On your list Anth, most of your issue l had with my 2k Wr360 which vibrated just about everything off the thing....but the speedo cable is useless, l have snapped/snagged 3 so l don't bother anymore.

LoL..l have a 96 Wr360 and amazingly nothing has ever fallen off aside from the twit on it :)
