Hi everyone,
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Perhaps....if a rider takes a class or event win then cafe husky could have a Trophy Section for all the site sponsors who have helped in supplying parts and knowledge to acheive the result and promote there products?.....The riders bike setup could help other cafe husky riders to benefit from this information when racing.......Only an idea?

My Lectron was waiting on my front porch today after getting it back from Kevin. Will hopefully be installed tomorrow, still laying out trail for the 'gator.

Jon and I rode in and around the Laughlin Hare scrambles in the crusty/gnarly stuff to avoid the racers yesterday. 32.7 miles used 1 gallon 2 oz of fuel. Pretty stunning, so today we rode a bunch of sand washes and rocky hills across the valley. 30.3 miles took 7 pints of fuel = 34+ mpg. I am using a new 38mm sent to me by Kevin and Kelly as I sent my other one to Ajaxauto. I am still stunned how much crisp, clean, smooth power this carb makes while getting such great fuel economy. My plugs are just the nicest light tan and spooge is completely nonexistent.

Well this is one thread I thought I would NEVER be a part of WHY ? Because I thought there is no way my 125/165 could ever run any better.Remember I am the one who NEVER touched his carb never changed the jets from the factory settings Won many races and never had a problem Well with that mine set MR Walt himself had to get involved and make a personal phone call and tell me to man up and just try it
Well just to shut him up I said ok, the 165 was a good deal and you are the smart one I said ok send me one of those fancy new funny looking carbs.
Well where do I start what can I say that has not already been said before.I took the seat off,took the tank off
pushed the stock air box boot to the side ,removed the stock carb Then I put the stock cr cable on to the Lectron
carb and reinstalled the carb.Total time about 5 min.But then came the problem as after 3 kicks the bike started and ran perfect.I then went for a ride and the only reason I had to stop was it was getting dark that was after about 5 hours of riding and I did not bring my lights.The bike really did work better in every part of the power band I was really impressed.I wanted to race it the next day but the 165 really needs some love before I can race it again So now I am working on a full prep just so I can race it next weeken WAIT now another problem I liked the carb so well I called Ty Davis at Zip Ty Racing and told him about it Since he Ty is now racing a 2013 CR 144.I went so far as to tell Ty I will send you my carb so you also can be a new beleiver
So stay tune for my new ride report along with what ever Ty comes up with since he will also be testing the carb

Mine was delivered to parcel force today and my beloved big sister made sure it was tucked away safe and sound for me as she was off work this afternoon, so I got home and parked my van up went in and grabbed my two dogs and went for a hike through the woods and fields to retrive it, I was up to my shins in mud at times and didnt give a stuff after waiting 39 days for the thing to arrive due to a slight hic up at the USA end lol.
Trudged back through the muck and sludge carrying a nice big brown box that the UK customs decided was worth removing $87.33 from my wallet for the fun of it, not bad seeing as when walt sent me my 165 kit they only robbed me of $42.92 !! go figure
Chucked the dogs through the door and went straight to work fitting the nice new Lectron onto the long time vacant hole between the boots
Job took a few minutes to have it nicely in place so the moment of truth, Fuel on - choke on - a few twists of the throttle just to make sure all was working and slide was returning - climb aboard and kick - OPPS its in gear - engage neutral and kick again - ding ding ding ding -Yep first kick ish, not bad seeing the bike has stood carb less for a long time since I gave my old Lectron to a mate
Although it was running things didnt seem right and didnt want to take throttle above a 1/8 ! Mmm seemed real lean so wound a full turn richer on the metering rod - still no good so another full turn and this time it revved but still didnt seem right so gave it another full turn and still things were not right so pull the carb completely and had a good look at the intake rubber as I thought maybe I may of caught it and torn it ! all seemed good so re fitted - same lean condition
pulled carb and removed intake manifold for a real good look - all is perfect so refit again and still things are not right so pull again and put carb in a vertical position and the float level seems real low to the marks on the float bowl so pull the bowl and give things a tweek to get the level between the marks and refit and guess what ????? Yep it still aint right but if I gently rev it it will rev so I try to ride it and again if I get above 1/8 - 1/4 throttle it just dies
Mmmm so what next ? Ok see if it will ride with the choke on - Na still the same so pull carb yet again but need to take a pee so pop in and have one and feed the dogs, make a good big strong coffee as it looks like its gonna be a long night and back to the carb I go and while sipping on my coffew with the slide in my other hand I suddenly get this ERRR moment !!! surely the flat portion of the metering rod faces the motor not the intake !!! Yep sure enough this thing is in 180 out ! wind the rod back in 3 and a 1/2 turns and refit the thing for around the 10th time !! one small kick and things now settle to a proper nice idle and takes throttle YIP YIP YAAA chuck a helmet on a go for a quick blast in the darkness (boy are the light shit on these things) bike runs perfect and picks the front wheel up wiith ease while in 4th and again in 5th with a bit of a tug on the bars .
Have a quick ride around the block and hold it flat out till I get back to my road and kill it- pull plug and its perfect so the power jet side seems right at I think its 1 and a 1/2 turns out
Will now wait till the weekend for final adjustments but think Im just about spot on as it is
As for the metering rod being out 180 I really do not have a clue if I somehow managed to turn it on assembly but relly cannot see how as all I did was pull the three screws, pop the slide and attach the cable and refit but with allen bolts not the flat heads
So now you all can have a real giggle at me for spending THREE hours to fit a carb and finally notice what was amiss but I really dont care as I at least get to ride my beloved 165 again this weekend

So was the issue that the flat side of the rod was not facing the engine when you re installed it? Still a little confused. thanks.
