    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Seems that evey Terra isti is going to consider these before production stops .
Do you have any crash bars if so which ones? Have you di=one any research into what is compatible.???? Love to hear your thoughts...

I would hold off getting crash bars if you are going for the Safari Tank if I were you. You would want to make sure there is going to be clearance to fit them, which is going to be hard to do until some Cafe Husky diners get their hands on them.

The highest mounting point for the TCI crash bar appears to be lower than the lowest point on the Safari tank. So, it looks good to go. And, someone has to try it.

Hey all. Just thought I'd let you know of a little problem I've encountered with the connection from the Safari to the main tank. Safari use an alloy elbow and grommet system (see photo below) to connect their main valve to the main tank.

Its an interference fit so there is no use of a gasket to prevent leaks. Speaking to Safari, they have spoken to their US supplier and they have had no problems with the design on other fuel tanks.

As I've mentioned my bike is a magazine project bike and the tanks I received were the original prototypes. As such I shouldn't have got them. Safari have been excellent and are going to replace them. But I digress.

Make sure when you fit the tanks you pay attention to the size and positioning of the hole into your main tank. Mine is a little low and is undersize (mine is 12mm should be 13mm).

This has two impacts:
A) a low hole means the inside of the main tank is not flat and you can't use a washer and nut to secure an alternate threaded elbow like the attached

B) a small hole means that over time the interference fit wares on the grommet all the way through and you'll have a pretty good fuel leak. Lucky for me I smelt the fuel before I started the bike otherwise could have had a flaming terra.

Safari were great explaining the situation, providing a replacement grommet and booking me in for new tanks.

I've replaced the grommet and added a little Permatex fuel resistant liquid gasket to help seal the hole (something for you to consider). This was before I found out the hole was too small. I'm now going to have to try and remove the elbow/grommet and re-drill the hole.

If you are planning to fit a threaded elbow, you can get access to the inside of the main tank by removing the fuel pump (6 torx screws, T25 I think). I was able to do it to remove the broken grommet. Only proviso is you need a small hand.

I'm posting this as a lessons learnt not as a judgement on Safari or the tanks. My bike was the project bike and will have some teething issues.

Safari have been very helpful and I loved having the tanks. Their customer service has been great. Enjoy when they arrive.

If you reckon you can access the inside of the tank by removing the pump, I would install a bulkhead fitting for peace of mind. You may have to use some long handle, long nose pliers to install & hold the nut while you tighten the fitting from the outside. Just an idea; here's something I googled -

No worries. Go to a smaller 1/8"NPT internal thread as this will reduce the outside diameter of the fitting. Remember to allow for the size of the hex head during installation & provide a nice flat surface for your o-ring to seal (make sure o-ring is compatible with ULP). Good luck.
 
Has anyone in the US received their tank yet? I just checked in with Safari USA. I was told that the shipment was delayed - and is expected in 3-4 weeks.

Hi Len, I was talking to Safari today and asked about the delay. Was told it was due to production set up. They believe they've got it sorted now. No detail on timeframe though.

Cool. Looks great. My replacement tanks should be here soon. I had to original prototypes on my bike when I bought it. Speaking to Safari, it shouldn't have been sold with them. They're sending me the replacements. Now we need to find some decals or a spray painter to add that husky character.
 
Word of warning if you are putting one of the new tanks on a Strada. As far as I lnow the two models are identical behind the tank but maybe not. I have dry fitted my red ones to my Strada and there are some serious clearance problems on the left hand side. I got the right one on after machining the cylindrical frame bolt down .9mm and drilling the moulding swarf from the rear mounting holes with a 12mm bit ( do not use a half inch one just because you are using one for the tank hole).
The left butts up against at least 4 spots. I will send the photo's to Safari today and see what he says. Looks like a couple of spots need to be more indented or less raised. Considering the manufacturing variation in the TR's it might just be mine. Cannot get it to sit in far enough.

I did have to squeeze that left side just a bit to fit up the top cross brace. Found that the LHS front upper screw hard to align and yes that swarf I did have to scrape it out out before bolting up. I was just a little disapointed in the surface finish in a couple of spots. Hope it can all be sorted for you.

I put bearing blue on all the spots that contact to check them and there were 5. One was particularly nasty slide nut lug that digs into the taks and is quite sharp. I am going to experiment with the rear spacer and a wider bottom support hole hole spacing on the cross brace. They are probably going to reengineer it anyway for some other things so I could just need some more refining. It is possible that could solve all of the problems in one go. I have just had a double hernia operation so I will not be doing it for a few weeks.
