• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Seeking horsepower for my SM610

nsrrider

Husqvarna
AA Class
Thought I'd post to see what anybody else is doing to up the output a little. I have a 08 SM610 that I love, but wish it had a few more HP, particularly in the higher third of the power band. It runs well and I've done the Leo slip-on and 02 sensor removal......it's just that the power is well, uninspiring. Last week I rode a buddy's KTM SM690.......while I'm not rushing out to get one, I did like the output of the bigger motor.

I had a DR 650 that I slipped a higher comp piston into and really liked what it did for that bike.

The Husky spins really slow on the elec starter and I'd be a little nervous about upping the comp.

I recognize that there is RARELY an engine mod one can do to a stock motor and not suffer some kind of negative consequence but, I'm not seeing much in the way of anybody experimenting with pistons, cam etc.........

any ideas????

You might try contacting George at Uptite Husqvarna, his shop has been modding those motors for a long time.

I pretty much ride offroad exclusively but I've got no complaints with the power
output on my TE610 w/Leo Vince and JD Jetts. I lowered the gearing a bit and I
can ride tight trails in second gear and let the torque of the mighty 610 chug along
with the slight blip of the throttle. It is truly an amazingly versatile, powerful in all
the right ways type motor. I've ridden a 2000 DR650 and I thought it had a nice roll-on
powerband although in a drag race my 94' KLX650 (my previous bike) would win everytime.
Since I've lowered the gearing every time I ride on pavement it's hard to keep the
front wheel on the ground through the first four gears.
What I've found over the years with the many bikes that I've owned is enough is never
enough. No matter what mods you do you're always looking for more. I am more than
happy with the power of my 610, it's the weight and size of the bike that is a little
excessive for what I like. Being that you ride pavement I'd say give it some time to
break in and you will see that it is a surprisingly powerfull, smooth motor. Jerry

I ride a TE510 in the dirt and feel like its power output is totally adequate....if not more than I can use in the tight, technical woods that I like to ride in. The 610 is just a bit uninspiring in output for the street. In fact, I'm guessing the 510 is more powerfull than the 610. I cant see lowering the gearing on 610......its a great compromise between relaxed highway speeds and lower gear snap. I get the impression that this motor is mostly the same as it was in 2000 and while its a nice motor....its down on HP. I've just ordered a piston kit from Wiseco that will bump compression a tiny bit.....still suppose to run on pump gas. Will also have a quality job of lapping the valves done......will report back on the results, it may be a month or so before I get it done......
