• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sherco 5.1 vs. Husky 510

Just a general comment.

We have the "Husqvarna Bikes (Bikes & Accessories)" forums for the Husqvarna bikes.... and other forums like racing, news, diner as well. This "Main" forum is for the stuff that does not fit the other forums. And the Main forum is the perfect place to talk about Sherco bikes

"Main" should be called something else at this point cause it is more like a catch all/misc forum. Might rename it in the future after a few other things happen.

Hey Mike...

Just a note to give you the rundown of what I've done with the bike.

Trailtech HID Eclipse X2 headlight/number plate (Thanks Lee). Very high quality stuff... best plastic quality I've ever seen on a number plate/light. OE lighting is afterthought crap.

Zeta bars. A bit more rise and less pullback than stock... and they're green!
I've been considering Fasst bars, but don't have the scratch at this time.

Scott's top mount damper... a semi-complicated installation, as what Scott's thought would work... didn't.
I have photos and instructions if you need them.

Acerbis guards.

Renthal kevlar grips.

Touratech mount for Garmin 60.

Rebuilt the seat... duh.

Sicass LED tail light.

Installed LED turn signals... then took 'em off, so now I'm a major criminal.

That's about it. I've got some Motoz tires coming from Motosportz (Thanks Kelly) to try out, and I'm still looking for a tank that isn't for pro rallye and doesn't cost $4000. :D

The new, '09 Shercos have Ceriani forks and Sachs shock, petal brake rotors and a few other minor changes including blue/white body work... pretty bike.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled, Husqvarna programming.

Ciao,
C

Wow, Cherry-Annie forks!

Thanks for the info, links, advice, and kind words. I know it takes time to respond and i appreciate it.

Im not going to sell all my Huskys, so ya cant get rid of me yet.

But yeah, that 5.1 looks like what i want/need, plus it has white fenders.... Just wish it had a plate. Thats a stumbling block for me, but not a deal breaker. Ill post up some pics down the road. Probably wait to see what Husky/BMW '10 look like, then pull the trigger one way or another, probably race a Sherco in '10. Dualsport on my Husky. :)

man, you guys are killin me LOL!! Ryan Young's shop is only 4hrs drive from my place.... must resist....I must....:banghead:

What ever you do... don't ride one. :D

Hey Mike,

I know you'll probably be picking up a '09/'10 Sherco... but here are a few current photos of my '08 "work in progress".

I've not done all that much to it... upgraded the lighting to HID/LED, fitted Motoz rubber, added my favorite bar bend, handguards and grips, stuck on the 60CSx in a Touratech mount... and of course, rebuilt the seat.
The motor is stock, and other than some adjustments to make it more "lively" for the rocky terrain in my part of the world, the suspension is as well.
I've even left the stock 14/48 final drive gearing as is because I haven't run into a situation where a bit lower gearing was absolutely neccessary.

Cheers,
C

What type of range can you get on the stock tank in single track/fire road conditions? Can you get 80 miles?

Do the new bikes still have the coolant recovery bottle up by the radiator? I looked at one of these in 200 and liked the low seat height, quiet exhaust and massive radiators with the coolant bottle for what I assume would be rare boil overs.

Lastly, is the seat height still a bit lower than average? All the bikes nowadays are too damn tall.

Last offroad, long distance excursion I got 78 miles on a 2.3 gallon tank. I carry a couple of 1L aluminum camp stove bottles for long rides... or a friend with a big tanked KTM. :D

Yes they do... you can see it in the photo. There is a horizontal line across the tank to indicate coolant level.

I have a 31 inch "riding inseam"... I have no issues with footing. The newest bikes are suppose to have an even lower seat height... by what amount I don't know.
The stock seat has sufficient foam thickness that it can be lowered as much as 1 inch.

Do these bikes come with a spark arrestor?
