• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Shorty replacement levers

I bought some oversize bars and the billet oversize handlebar clamps for my 250 1975 Husky CR. I ride in tight woods in Florida and picked up some Acerbis hand guards to protect my hands from tree trunks. Unfortunately the original Magura levers are too long to accommodate the hand guards. I suppose modern dirt bikes all come with short levers now. Most of the brake levers I've seen on line are only for disc brakes and not the cable type. Anyone know of a good short replacement lever to replace the stock Magura levers in their original perches? It takes a manly man to pull in a standard long Magura clutch lever, I'll have even less leverage with the shorties. But - I really want to use those hand guards. Any suggestions?

magura makes shorty levers. all my non-disc brake huskys have them. they were available from Husky Products back in the day.

If you do some research you will find both the shorty and regular length levers still available and come with a split perch system instead of the single pieces slide on type. These are shorter then the long levers you have now. The regular length levers give you the leverage you need if adjusted properly. The shorty levers looked good but didn't have the leverage needed for prolonged use. Just angle the levers down below the guards and you will be fine.

I actually did do a couple of hours research, but still haven't been able to find any Magura shorty levers that aren't non-disc. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. I'm not stuck on Magura -if anyone has had luck fitting an aftermarket shorty lever to the stock perch I'd sure like to know... Is Husky Products an online store?

I got Trackside shorty levers that I am putting onthe 84 250WR I am restoring. I got them from CycleGear for about $13 each. Not Magura but will do the job on a rider. I use them on my 349 Cota and they work rather well

I purchased a set for my Maico and one for my Husqvarna project from Weekend-Warriors off of Ebay. They are not cheap but they are original Magura and have the stock adjustments necessary to function properly. Many aftermarket lever kits have a short screw type adjustment and they always seem to be a little off. You can email Weekend Warriors and they will sell you some products without having to bid for them also. You racing in the FTR series this year?

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the info. I'll probably do some of the FTR events this fall. I'll need a summer of practice to be ready to race. I last raced my Husky in 1980, then sold it to a friend that moved to Vermont. He rode it probably about 3 hours over the past 33 years and this year I talked him into selling it back to me. It was like a time capsule - the grips were still good, some of the bolts still safety wired from 1980, same tires that I had mounted in my parent's carport with a pair of screwdrivers! I've got it running great, got her a new set of Fat Bars with billet mounts and new tires, but getting the suspension up to snuff is going to take some time and money. Thinking of eventually getting new fork springs, race tech gold valves, billet triple clamps and some new shocks. It has an old pair of Marzocchis on it that don't seem to have much damping any more. Probably have to do it a little at a time to spread out the cost. I think she'll be worth it though. Old Huskys are so beautiful, I sometimes just take a break from working on it and just sit back and admire it.

Hey Greasyrider ! I am in florida too , a little south of you tho. I usually just break mine to fit "lol" I not sure where to find them but if you find them I would be interested in yours if there for sale at least the clutch lever for my 85 wrx.

Yup, just checked Andy's gottem.. Hva-factory.com search levers and they are the third ones down from the top. 45 pounds or something with a little squiggly line ? swedish made tho.

Bary, I'll probably hang on to my longys - just in case I'm not man enough to handle the shorties. Andy would probably be glad to sell you a longy as well!
