• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Should I buy this bike?

Price is in the ballpark, depending on condition.
Parts arent a problem, this engine was around many years.
The 610 is a hoot, but a bit on the stout side for hardcore Enduro offroad work, especially in the woods.
Did they ride it from Alaska to WA?

Thanks for the reply. Im actually not sure if he rode it from Alaska, but I did notice the plates. Im not too picky on it being too stout etc. Im more poor than I am picky, so just trying to get the best bike I can for around the $1500 range....

Im looking for a bike that would work well on the highway since Ill be taking that to the mountain so I would assume the 610 would be better? Also Im 6ft5 230lbs......

How many miles does it have?

The 610 is a fantastic bike. With its wide gearing it can handle highways all day long - though with no fairing or windscreen you get buffeted so riding highways is a workout. The payoff really comes when you get onto the trail, where the 610 is far more capable than many of the heavier 650cc dual sports.

That said, there aren't that many 610s out there so owning one is a bit of a labour of love. And a bike this age is going to need some parts - especially if you want to do highway distances or hardcore enduro. Its probably worth getting an inspection to see if anything else needs doing, and be prepared to increase your budget by 500-1000 for contingencies.

I wouldn't let this discourage anyone. Lots of good proper streetbikes (Ducati Monster, SV650, Duke/Super Duke, all the classic UJMs, street fighters, Triumph Speed/Street Triple, the list is nearly endless...) don't have fairings or windscreens, and guys hammer highway miles on those bikes all day long. My Monster is more comfortable to ride on the highway than my old ZX6R with full fairings, because the air blast is clean.
