  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SMR/TC 450 frame swap??

oregontrail

Husqvarna
AA Class
Does anyone know if an 06 SMR 510 frame and an 07 TC 450 frame are compatable? I can get a plated SMR frame and swap my TC parts over to make it street legal. I live less than 5 minutes from my riding area, would be nice just to ride there.

This is what the parts fiche says, which is wrong:
2004-07 TE's and SMR's use 25x50x17.5mm stem bearings.
Mid 2006-07 TC's and SM-RR's use 29x48x17.5mm stem bearings.

BUT THE PARTS FICHE'S ARE WRONG ABOUT THE OUTSIDE DIAMETERS!!! ALL FRAMES FROM 2004 AND UP USE 25x50 or 29x50 STEM BEARINGS. So you can use any frame within your generation. (2004-07, 2008-2010, and 2011-2013.) You just need to use the right bearings.

The bike is actually complete with blown motor. It's got some nice parts like FBF triple clamps, FBF exhaust, plus some other stuff.

Any phone number or a way to get a hold of for the person selling? I could use some parts..
Thanks

Those two particular frames won't swap. There are two groups of frames between 04-07. Both group run a different stem bearings. The 2007 bikes came with a rear brake master cylinder with integrated reservoir so there is no frame mount for a remote reservoir. Other than that they're all pretty close. Right now I'm running a 530 in a TC250 frame with '08 SMR triples and forks. Soon I'llbe running another 250 frame with a 450 in it.

2004-07 TE's and SMR's use 25x50x17.5mm stem bearings.
Mid 2006-07 TC's and SM-RR's use 29x48x17.5mm stem bearings.
**Haven't looked up 05-earlier TC's yet. The reasons I say mid-2006 is because that's when I believe they started changing stem bearings. I have two 2006 TC250 frames, one with the older size stem bearings and one with the newer size. Both frames are verified to be TC250's by their Vin.

And for anyone else's curiosity;
2008-10 all models as far as I'm aware, use the 29x48x17.5mm stem bearings.

This is also helpful when swapping triples/forks between newer-older/different generation bikes.

Complete noob here....so you are saying a 2004 TE250 frame could hold a 2004 SMR 450 engine as long as stem bearings match?

It will fit.

As for stem bearings, I need to edit that post.. the Parts diagram says some frames use a bearing that has a different outside diameter. But they are all the same OD. The bearings are either 29x50 or 25x50 so you can swap any frame. The different generations of triples can be swapped by changing out the bearings.
