  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I believe you are asking how to convert a TE510 to a SM510, then be able to convert back.

There are a few ways, but I'm no expert:
  1. get better street tires on the TE instead of knobbies for the street and continue to use the existing wheels. or,
  2. get different 17" rims with SM tires and put those on - usually needs an additional rear sprocket & shorter chain, and brake rotors...and the kick stand being too long may be an issue, and if you want,
  3. In addition to #2 putting on a larger front brake rotor and using a relocation bracket for the front rotor.

no ,I hawe sm 510r and sometime I want to go in wood or off road to drive and with 17'' tire that is not so good,so I tought to hawe bike for both.

Sounds good.

Someone else will have to help with the details cause I've not converted an SM to a TE before... I thought there was a thread like that around here recently.

Its a far more difficult job to convert an SM to a TE.

The biggest problem is the SMR front brake is too big to allow the 21" front wheel to fit so you need to change the front brake calliper and front disc as well as fitting the TE wheels.

Then you have to understand that the SMR suspension is set up for road use. The SMR springs are much harder and there is less fork travel (250mm on SMR, 300mm on TE) so even with the TE wheels fitted the SMR suspension does not work well off road.

Maybe the easiest option is to fit some 17" tyres with an off road tread pattern?
