• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Source for Socket Head Torx fasteners....ideally stainless?

Its not an online supply house but Mt Hood Fasteners in PDX, OR specialize in out of the norm fasteners, especially SS.
I'll look into that one. However, my guess is they're the same as my local Tacoma Screw experience and won't deal in less than 100.

I'll stop in today...and post up if they have a web site. In the mean time if someone else finds an 'on line source' and post...I'll modify this thread and get rid of all unnecessary post...including this one.

Thank you. Part of the reason I'm doing this is that I've seen people in various other forums claim sources litter the internet for torx fasteners, but nobody ever seems to cite an actual source.

If we're going to be resigned to order single replacement bolts from ktm-parts for our TR650's...that's OK I guess. I just want to put this to bed as an urban myth or not.....and I'm increasingly sure it is a myth. :)

I may end up trying to build a box of popular TR650 fasteners....and if I have to get quantity 100 on all of them...then maybe I'll divide by 10 and try and sell 9 of the surplus to my local BMW group or something.

Riding to work it looks like most of the socket heads on the bike are T30 and T40 (I see one bolt that's bigger). Many of the trim fasteners appear to be T27. So, if I build a box of T27, T30, T40 in popular lengths I might be talking about 15 different fasteners. I think I'll spend an evening actually pulling some fasteners from the bike, measure, and build an ideal dream box...that sounds like fun Thursday evening at home.

I did this for my FJR in hex and my favorite fastener drawer is this one:

Yeah, but that's not my question. I'm looking to build a bolt box for more than just my motorcycle and several friends with BMWs...but not 100 of everything. If nobody has a link--that's fine! But I'm really only interested in online sources for this exercises.

No offense, but you are being a wee bit rude. I offered a legitimate place to get what you wanted at a reasonable price.

None taken and not my intention certainly. I asked a very narrowly tailored question and have received a lot of off-topic responses...mainly because I'm increasingly sure a source doesn't exist...especially in the U.S.

There's simply not an equivalent of this very spiffy stainless metric socket head kit in Torx.

No worries though. I saw the writing on the wall when I first added a set of Probends and then later BH Moto racks. All the after-market stuff comes with metric socket heads...not Torx. As we farkle our bikes, we're either going to have to live with a mixture of Torx and Metric fasteners....or spend a fair amount of time and effort hunting down individual replacement Torx fasteners.

I had to order some Tek screws for work, so I checked on metric socket head torx from Mt Hood Fast. No luck.

Here are some bolts, maybe add to parts list?

Hexalobular = torx
Much better link! Thank you. Actual Torx (and another search term that seems the same "hxalobular" thing). And quantities in the much more reasonable range of 20x or 50x.

I'll have to check to see shipping and other terms. Might not still be a good deal for U.S. folks, but seriously thanks for the first link that actually fits what I asked for! :)

Glad to be of help. It was sitting in the back of my mind that somebody was looking, and way back then I checked and did not see anything. But the other day, looking for some specialty washers for the terra project, I also searched for the torx, as I only want to have a small tool kit. It took a little to find this topic again LOL.

Shipping is reasonable. I put a whole bunch in the cart and went to checkout to see. Price for stainless is good also. I think I had about 180 pieces of various dia. and the shipping was like 8 euros. I had to double check if that was only local shipping, and found they ship to alot of countries and even OZ  And the price quoted for shipping did reflect USA and the shipping times were real good, but I doubt if they will come that fast. 10 to 15 days is more accurate.

Looking forward to see your assortment.

Now if I could find the proper cup washers, LOL. Looking for snazzy bolts to mount my luggage rack.
