• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey Giant Joe. I will be coming down to Chochrane April 28,29 and plan to ride McLean with my 8yr old son and his new CR 50. I hope to get in a "big boy" ride while I'm down there. Is the snow gone? Do you plan to ride that weekend?

Bad news fella. McLean Creek is not open for motorcycle use until May 1st. I'm not 100% on whether there is still snow in the low mountains, but I would think so. People are still using studs in Waiprous.

I just picked up a 2010 WR300 from Outback MotoXtreme. I live in Calgary and belong to The Rocky Mountain Dirt Riders Association. There is only one other Husky around me as far as I can see, a 2008 or 2009 WR250. If you're ever in the Calgary area gimme a shout and I'll show you some of the trails I know!!

GiantJoe, Hopefully we get a guided ride in next week.

Weather forecast looks like it may change for the better.
I wont have my Husky out just yet, but the CRF will be great to get to rust off before the nicer weather hits.

Ha ha, now there are 4 of us! Brent with his 250, oldmxer with his 300, me and my 300, now you Paul. We will conquer the world! Next week should be on if Monday and Tuesday are dry.

Yep, McLean creek is crown land so you need to have everything Alberta transportation requires. Headlight/Taillight, quiet muffler, registration/insurance. You have to be a club member as well. We ride nearly every Wednesday night all summer long.

Lights? that sux, then id have to retrofit the TC. Or wait till i buy that new TE449, but thats another story....

Wow! 4 of us now in Calgary area! Very cool! Do I hear 5 anyone! Huskies are a really good value, and quality is excellent. Maybe 6 or 7 by the end of this season?

Hey Giant Joe,

Funny reading this thread, I'm a Comm Tech teacher as well, except I'm from Ontario. I was looking to head out west to perhaps race the WEC in Blairmore July 14 & 15. From what I've heard it's super tough .. which has me considering just doing local (non-competitive) riding in Alberta. Ultimately, I want to ride in the mountains and see beautiful scenery. Where's a good place to start. I heard the area around the crow's nest pass is the best. What's your take on this?

Do you ride in the winter Giant Joe? I'll be in Calgary March 1-3, so I'm wondering if trails are ridable now in the Waiprous area. I have Telleborgs, so ice is no problem.

I rode last winter, but didn't have the time commitment to do it this year. From what I hear, the trails are very rideable right now. We haven't had a lot of snow this year, and it's been warm for the last month. There are some pretty common loops around the creek I think. If you want more info, go to rmdra.com and ask around there.
