  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

splitting cases on 83 250 xc

Im going to be splitting the cases, soon for a rebuild looking for a supplier for the bearings and gasket set..I put all of my time last winter into the frame and suspension now its time for the engine. I was told it ran right before the guy sold it to me, boy that was a lie...The bike didn't have any spark so I took off the fly wheel and it appeared the flywheel had contacted the stator...I grabbed the end of the crank and sure enough there was enough slop to move the crank with my hand not good...So is there any special procedure involved? ive taken a couple jap cases apart with no problem just want to be cautious...Thanks guys

I used a two leg jaw puller on mine

thank you...
Ordered all my gasket and bearings today from husky-parts should be running by the end of next week:applause:thanks Phil...

Got the cases split today, the gear attached to the crank on the clutch side was a bear to remove..Anyhow pressed the pin out of the crank wow that was shot as well as the rod bearing. As you read this the cases are soaking in solvent along with the jug and head, im hoping to get it all sand blasted tomorrow, and get the powder coat on then start pressing in all of the bearings ..Ill post some pics..Being as ive never riden the bike or any Husqvarna for that matter what can I expect power wise? All ive owned is modern bikes I have a 07 YZ250 for H/S and Enduro....Thanks Philip @ Husqvarna-parts

Matt,
From what I remeber of the 6 spd was ......bye bye jap bike........ In 6th gear you will be going faster than any mere mortal should. Think overdrive rocket that will would go as fast as youv'e ever wanted.
In the trees. You carve.

have it all stripped now just have to get it blasted..WoW the paint that was put on from the factory was made to last, took me a gallon of air craft stripper to get it off...here is the heart transplant recipient..Going with silver jug, head, and gloss black cases...

be sure to machine the base, insides & clutch sides while you have it apart. also, if you're re-sleeving the cylinder machine its base too. takes a lot out of the equation so you don't get air leaks, or oil leaks.

I like the direction your heading with your 250. I want to do my 83 250 black or charcoal gray for the frame and tank with fork tubes and shock springs in gold. Also thought of all black plastic, not sure how it would look with the charcoal gray though. Great work can't wait to see more pics.

thanks. I will make sure they are flat before assemble

Mattskn,
You mentioned that you will be powder coating the engine. Can you post up some powder color codes when you get them. I'd also love to see some finished pics of the powdercoated engine. Nice paint stripping job, looks great.

Just picked it up today after work..I want to give a big thanks to a great friend of mine Jeremy Zajak in Bay City Mi at Syndicate Cycle for rebuilding the engine and powder coating the hole bike. He is also the one that raked the frame to 28.5 deg and fabed the yz peg mounts on the frame, mades the bike feel like im setting on my 07 YZ250 cant wait race it..

Buy a Clymer manual , forget the Haynes :banghead:.

Follow the gear timing instructions to the letter and you'll find you have a full box of dogs in the correct order .
